Opiate addiction and dependence

This looked like something I wanted to share. It's true Obama says in here that everyone who's grown up in America has known someone or who they themselves have struggled with dependence.

I know at least three (almost four) people who have died from heroin overdoses.

I think the fact that it's treated as a criminal issue rather than a medical one is a travesty though.  But something has to fuel the prison industry and the government's war on the poor.  "Oh you're a felon?  Congratulations, now you can't vote or own a gun; So not only can you not vote us out but you can't revolt either."

It is a travesty. These people need help, not a prison sentence.
