Fierce Critter Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 So, besides an overpriced store shelf or the p2p download that'll take over 36 hours on her dial-up connection, where can a chick who accidentally deleted the copy of Mcrsft Office XP Pro from her laptop find a new copy? PM's are nice.
Scary Guy Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 A little more info It's put out by Sun Microsystems and completely open source and free, but is a lesser version of Star Office and does not include a database program (but you can use other better things anyhow). It will in fact read Microsoft doccument formats (except for Microsoft Access, because again it doesn't have a database application). Even better Microsoft is going to open source all their file formats and finally move into a newer better XML based format, meaning every office app out there will be compatable with office doccuments.
SomeDanGuy Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 I've got a copy of Office XP. I didn't know there was a "Pro" though, so maybe it's not what you're looking for

Fierce Critter Posted July 15, 2005 Author Posted July 15, 2005 I'm not sure now where I got the "pro" from. May just be what I saw when browsing available files on Kazaa.
Scary Guy Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Pro is their corporate version pretty much with more features and different odds and ends. Comes with Outlook (non express, so it's resistant to more exploits), Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point. BTW Kazaa blows (as you probably know) but check out www.exeem.com and LimeWire

BTW Kazaa blows (as you probably know) but check out www.exeem.com and LimeWire <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The version of Office XP I had included voice recognition to use in conjunction with programs such as Word. That disappeared with the accidental uninstall of Office, and I want it back. Yes, Kazaa blows. But I had Limewire for a while and it never had anything I was looking for. WinMX is a little better, but I'm not crazy about their interface. Kazaa still has the better number of files available for what I'm looking for, particularly when it comes to software. I'd love to kick Kazaa to the curb, but I go where the product is, and it's still there - so far.
Fierce Critter Posted July 15, 2005 Author Posted July 15, 2005 I have xp pro. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> OFFICE or Windows?
Vater Araignee Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 OFFICE or Windows? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> :doh :whistling
