Psycrow Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Anyone know where to get good leather, I like making my own clothes and Ive run out of biker jackets. The only places I can find basicly sell skinned animals, YUCK! Im look for something a little more processed, and ready to go, like a sheet of fabric youd buy at a sewing shop.
bean Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Not to be a jackass, but have you tried looking at JoAnn fabrics, or Hancock fabrics? There is also Haberman (I think that is the name of it) in Downtown Royal Oak..that place is huge, they might have it there. Good luck!
float Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 silk and satin leather and lace back panties with an angels face sorry I couldn't resist
Brenda Starrr Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 How does one "run out of" biker jackets? :grin
Head Wreck Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 recycling old leathers is the way. intending on doing a run of charity and secondhand store shopping soon to find old leather jackets to tear up and sew together in patches. then i'm gonna make myself a cassock ass to new butt and nappa, look in the phone dir for a tannery
torn asunder Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 if you don't mind piecing together, i'd suggest biker leather shops - the one where i got my chaps sells the scraps off for $% a bag. (they cut the bottoms off, to adjust the length, so the pieces aren't huge, but might work for you...)
slingerlandstyx Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 How does one "run out of" biker jackets? :grin <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You could do like I did one time and lose your coat check ticket out on the dance floor... And then when you go to claim it, you find that somebody picked up the ticket and already claimed (stole) your coat... :tear I miss that jacket, it was f-ing awesome. This happened at CC by the way.
The_Dark Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Go to a Pow-Wow. Normaly you can pick up Buck skin pretty cheap.
holliwood66 Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 Tandy Leather is in Michigan has has high-quality leathers and all kinds of tools and fittings: http://www.tandyleather.com/leather.html The people at the shop are really helpful for special orders or general questions.
Ginevra Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 Renn Faires, heritage festivals, reputible taxidermists. . . .. these will all have "sheets" of leather that you can buy. Many should have exotics as well.
TheLordShaper Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 Yes I was going to suggest Tandy as well or EBay. I buy pieces off eBay to mold into armor for SCA fest fest stuff, clients and from time to time and for my own more intimate of encounters. Also buy older large jackets and vests for recycling works well; as does just getting the skins tanned and processed. If they cut them all nice and petty it costs more and you tend to get less leather. Good luck on the projects, I'd love to see the work when it's finished. ~TLS
Psycrow Posted July 22, 2005 Author Posted July 22, 2005 My Dad was a biker, and most of my friends and family, I had quite a collection. On another note, Ive tried the ren fest, too expensive. I paid $80 for just a shoulder pauldren. And it kinda suxx.
