Official Critter/Jon/Michigan Update Thread

Rather than post a dozen different threads for every aspect of our situation, I'm just gonna put it all here.

The latest: Jon has an interview tomorrow! He found a job on Monster when he was still down here, for a company in Madison Heights that installs doors & other access devices - including turnstiles, which is what he made down here.

I faxed a resume & cover letter out Monday, and he hit the road Tuesday, arrived 10:30 last night.

Today he got a call saying they'd like to interview him and, "see if this is something he'd like to do". We're gonna take that as a positive, that they're very interested in him, but want to see if he's interested in them.

Damn straight he is!!! His interview is tomorrow (Thursday) at 2:00.

Still wish we could find out what people that do that sort of thing make as salary.

Gonna go see if I can find anything on that...

Prayers/candles/herbs/chants/rosaries - it's all welcome here, folks. The sooner he lands a job, the sooner we can rent a place and get my ass up there.

*Praying like mad*

Good luck, Jon!!!!!

Pass it on....

Cool. Monster.com has a salary estimator.

Jon's worth at least $18.00 an hour/$36,000 a year. He was getting $14.00, so that'll be a major, major help if he gets that much.

Hoping for the best!

I hope he gets it and makes at least that much if not more. We want you back!

i can't believe you will be here so soon critter! :)

I can scarcely believe it myself.

Talked to Jon today. He's pumped to walk in there and land this job. He'll take it if offered, no complaints.

He talked to the guy who he's interviewing with on the phone this morning. The guy was on an install at 5:00 this morning out in Howell or Brighton. Man, they keep some hours!

Doesn't matter to Jon, though. If he's earning $14.00 or more per hour, I can do eBay still, and we won't have to worry about schedules, 'cause that sort of thing is very, very important to us.

I probably won't know until 8:00 tonight how things went. I have an appointment today to pickup a truck cap at 4:00, and Jon won't be back by then to call me. I doubt he'd get an offer on the spot anyway, though. But it'll be good to hear how things went.

We're not bothering with anymore resumes until at least tomorrow. If he gets an offer on this one, he's taking it flat-out.

Well, off to clean, organize, and all the rest of that hell.

GOOD LUCK!

Just heard from Jon at 2:30 - his 2:00 interview was already over.

Well, I've learned from experience not to celebrate until i's are dotted and t's crossed, but it looks like Jon has a job!

They said, among other things, he's exactly what they're looking for. They even service some of the turnstiles the company that took over Jon's shop down here makes. The turnstile thing is something new they're just getting into, so Jon'll be trained on a lot of other things before they dive into that stuff.

Pay is $2.00 more per hour than he was making down here, and he'll have Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPOM health insurance. 401k available.

One of the people interviewing him worked for another company we were going to send a resume to. We won't bother now - this place has a family-feel to it, been in business since 1952 and run like a family. The guy from the other company said he left because it was too corporate and uncomfortable. So looks like Jon picked the right place right off the bat.

Jon has to go back and meet with the company head honcho before it's a done deal, but the interviewers pretty much said it's just a formality. Looks like that might happen tomorrow, and if so, Jon will start Monday.

If so, that means I'll have to kick things into high gear down here so I'll be ready to come up as soon as Jon has a couple paychecks under his belt and a rental place for me to come to. We already have the $$ for the rental, but it's going to take some time with us having pets. We're going to start primarily with Wyandotte - it's a straight shot up Southfield to I-75, about a 30 minute drive into Madison Heights.

So, with that, I have a truck cap to go trade for a chainsaw, then it's pack, pack, pack!!!

Thanks everybody for prayers, energy & well-wishes. Things seem to be falling into place smoothly. Best-case scenerio: See you in 2 weeks. Otherwise, probably 4 and I doubt it'd be longer.

Glad to hear things have taken a good turn for the two of you. I wish you the best. I like the Downriver area--mostly Wyandotte and Trenton.
