Things like this keep Detroit segregated

Apparently, Century 21 Town & Country agents in Grosse Pointe Farms are racist. This is sad.

In response, president of the company vows to 'take action' against the allegations.

Isn't this sort of 'steering' illegal? The agents, when talking to white homebuyers, referred to Detroit as 'too ethnic' to deserve any serious consideration as a place to live. Nice.

EDIT: Michigan Department of Civil Rights is investigating, too.

That's about the 'norm', sadly. -And The police in GP are a far more rascist organization than any of the reality companies-not to mention our wonderful unbiased judicial system, in this country-

thats really sad Jarod .. and you wonder why i dont have faith in people ....

But we have HUD, Michigan DoCR, the National Fair Housing Alliance (and, I'm guessing, most people on DGN) that agree this is wrong. Also, if most people didn't think this was a bad practice would we have organizations or government institutions to somewhat safeguard this sort of thing doesn't happen? Sure, there is corruption, hypocrisy, and government inefficiencies involved, but the organizations are acting, at least on the principle and with the support of the people, that this is wrong.

I have a feeling this is probably more widespread than just this one agency. The National Fair Housing Alliance claims to be investigating other real estate agencies in the area for the same practice. I hope they expose every one 'cause I will surely not be using any of them when I'm looking to buy a house.

The point is there shouldnt have to be Organzations that look over this sort of thing.  ITS WRONG.  When it get to the point when ppl have to babysit others racimism and bigotry I have lost faith.... wait i take it back ... I LOST FAITH A LONG TIME AGO.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Uhm, yeah, it'd also be nice to not need police to patrol our streets or crime investigators or prosecutors or judges or prisons to 'babysit' us.

There are always going to be people doing what is deemed 'wrong' by the society at large. In this case, being racist is considered wrong. That wasn't the case 50 years ago.

It reminds me of a bumper sticker: Losing faith in humanity, one person at a time.

Racisim works both ways. I had a friend that lived in detroit for a while and his block pretty much forced him out through bullshit.

Not to be in agreeance with perpetuating segregation or anything, but I don't understand why anyone would want to live in a neighborhood where this is an issue. There are so many places you can live. Why choose one where you know you're going to have problems with the neighbors?

Isn't it easier to live drama-free??

Thats basically one of the points advocating segragation. But if we can't learn to live togeather as a community, then we're doomed as a society. Sometimes circumstances force you to take up residence in an area you'd rather not.
