I'm not sure I beleive in the Big Bang... see... according to the theroy everything was contained in this one super particle... there was nothing else... until it exploded and made the universe.... ok fine...

What was observing the particle?

I dunno. I stopped troubling myself with questions that I'll never know the answer to years ago. This after living pretty much as monk for a 5 year period. Life is so much better now.

I like the first one.....god or not. They would love you at my plant spirit journey group....they talk about this stuff all night....

I have two approaches to this question, which may end up being the same.

The first one is more scientic....

It has to do with a the "Higgs Field" as weel as "String Theory" and the way that the Universe converts potential energy into ketitic energy. The unverse to be unified into the single point that it must have started as, must have been extremely symetrical and ordered. According to the probability of the Theories equations... there is a minute chance that the Higgs Field would become asymentric for a miniscule fraction of the time, and create the most incredile force of antigravity possible, just long enough to create the universe... this also explains one of the major factors of the seemingly one way nature of time (ie: more and more entropy)

The spiritual explination:

If there were a 100 percenent omnipinant "God" that has contol of every single last partical and aspect of the Universe, can tell it's future, and it's own personal future.... well then there would be no point in making a Universe in the first place because, because to the God there would be no challenge, no point in createing anything because it already knows every outcome imaginable and every aspect of its will is equal. With one exeption... the one thing that this being would not be able to see, would be what would happen if it stopped existing, IE suicide.  In which case we would be the result of this beings death... every molecule in our universe and every feild, and every aspect of energy would be a peace of this being, including us.

That sounds cool... what is the group like?

That is a really deep question Phee.

It's mostly Mid age and 20 something professionals on the left wing extremist path...conspiracy theories are discussed...origins of the universe contemplated. Plant entheogenic spirit journey with discussion following.

It is how I have discoverd two of my totems....I don't know what the 3rd one is...I think I need to go to a regular one with out the ingesting of anything for awhile to get it.

Sounds like something I might want to see....

Space is a thing in and of itself. It is the absence of.. well, stuff. Space, though the most abundant thing there is, is limited and we are always trying to find more ways to make it. Making space in our busy scheduals, making space in the attic, making space in our life for that special someone. The lsit goes on. Space is and Space is not.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Space is a thing, sort of. But I disagree that it is the absence of stuff.

Take light for example.

There is a difference between space and the signularity of a black hole for instance.

Just being a layman here, don't know anything about physics or astronomy, but I do find it very interesting.

nah - infinity is the easiest thing to grasp...

i have a question tho - if infinity is definitively defined as encompassing/containing/being everything, does that make it finite, since it's definable, and if so, can it still be infinite, and if not, what is it then!?!?  :blink

New Question:

Do you believe that "Good" and "Evil" as fundimental poles within the universe, or are they absolutely relative invention of the human mind?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Totally invented by mankind.

There is no 'good' and there is no 'evil' in the universe except that which we created and defined.

I 100% agree

Well see.. we may have to wrestle to decide this. Light for example... is only a thing when it is interacting with something else... When it is, it's taking up space and that space is no longer empty.. so isn't space. A black hole isn't space either.. as it is occupied by a rather large amount of stuff. Space is that area between everything. It's the true Nul point of it all.

Light is kind of like the horizon, it is there you can see it, but you can't really measure it. In other words, it's not like you could go and have a bag of horizon, any more than you can have a bag of light.

what about a Bag of Holding?

Another question....

(assuming you believe in it) Where is the soul "physically" located?

*Points at my belly button*

Posted

Actually.. you can hav a bag of light. All you need is a magnetic bottle strong enough to hold Photons. it wouldn't give off any light though and would in a way be invisible... Kinda like a black hole. Light is a thing. it is measurable.

New Question...

Is Intelligence/Self Awareness a natural part of any species evolution, or are we unique in our abilities of analysis of the universe around us?

Posted

until we can communicate with other species, we won't know, but i doubt we're the only ones to have questions about our world... as for self-awareness, it seems to me that anything that can react to pain and will take the time to tend wounds (cats licking their cuts, for example) has to be self-aware, as in "hey, i'm injured!, i'd better take care of this!"

So you think that other creatures on earth contemplate their own existance

Posted

i was refering to intelligence, self-awareness, not contemplation of our universe. animals can recognize their own, like pack-mates, for example - they bond, they nurture, they protect. i think this indicates self-awareness and intelligence. as for contemplating our own existence, why we're here, where we came from, etc - no, i don't think they do, and they may be on to something... ;-)

Posted

So you don't think that as a species evolves that it naturally will aquire more self awareness?

Viruses keep on evolving and becoming more complex.... but as far was we know, they don't have self awareness....

Posted

sure, i think they could, but i don't think any currently do, other than humans.

from my personal observations, mammals seem to be the only ones to have social systems, and therefore it seems likely that they're the only ones to have any kind of self-awareness.

as an afterthought though, wouldn't it be funny if you were, say, watching a rabbit sitting in your yard, eating grass or whatever, and suddenly could read it's thoughts, and heard it thinking, "why am i sitting here eating grass? is this all there is to life? hopping around and eating vegetaion? gods, how depressing... there must be more to life than this!"

:laughing
