What does a goth by blood mean?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Descending from visigoths, I assume.

huummm i guess as you get older this stuff really dosen't matter but i think that "Goth" falls under so many catagories now that i really don't get it. I guess i grew up a skater / goth / punker ???and now I'm a just wierd looking dad.

don't let people lable you or don't lable yourself. Next time someone ask just say i am myself and like what i like.

or this allways works because we all are just differant than other people

your a freak

OK, maybe it's time for me to leave the board because this is like the fifth thread in a row I've read today that has no point or value whatsoever...

We're adults here, so why does anyone care about how they rate on the "official goth chart"? Anyone who does give a shit should go back to middle school.

I don't know if I'm a "real goth" either, but one thing I like about the goth scene is that the people in it seem to be so accomodating and accepting of misfits like myself.

Well, the young lady who started the thread IS, in fact, in middle school... I think most people picked up on that and are honestly trying to give her some insight/advice... which IMO as elders of a community, we are supposed to do w/younglings who come asking. But what the hell do I know, maybe I'm just thinking like a teacher again...

Middle school sucked, I always got picked on for being a huge nerd. I don't think I'd ever WANT to go back to it :)

Some Goths are into pissing off their parents.... while others are into Ak-47s and Sailor Moon.... (yes that is a confirmed combination of interests.... Moon Tiara Magic etc.)

Dont let it get you down if people are turds about you being a goth... and if they tell you that you are not a goth, what ever you do... dont try harder... that just makes you look silly.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

All goths r n 2 pissing off there parents, unless there goth 2, in fact, goths r n 2 pissing off the whole world, whats ur point?

Salior moon is a japense porno with all the porn cut out, bet you dident know that.

Moon Tiara Magic... OMG i'll let you have that one, I'll stay quiet for posteraty.

Everyone likes ak-47s, so that was kinda irrelavent.

One other thing, if there was a such thing as an ostragoth, it would be spelled Austragoth, as in austria. Close releatives to the germans, the desendents of the visagoths. Im checking my references for Austragoths, but I think thats some Bowl Chips someone made up(like on this board). Im not 100% sure so dont pitch a fit, but I will look into it.

You know I hesitate to take you on in this capacity (a non-political "community"thread) because I still feel like a fucking outsider on this site. So, if any of you want to tear me down here or yahoo or whatever, it's probably deserved.

That said W T F ?????

I mean, jesus christ, maybe she's a little unsure about where she fits in. Give her a break! It's not easy at any age when someone puts you down and tells you you're not this or that.

Honestly, I thought the whole goth scene was about being open for people that didn't quite fit in the mainstream.

You feel comfortable and confident in who you are and where you stand.

That's great.

Hooray!

Good for you!

But you know what, not everyone has your strength and confidence.

How dare you criticize her this way????

Here's a youth reaching out for help and guidance and you chop her hand off.

And what really bothers me was your choice of words.

(This thread) "has no point or value whatsoever"

Who made you lady of the world to judge whose views have a point or value.

You're not just criticizing a thread here, you're slamming a person, and a young one at that.

I will temper myself by saying,

I dont know you.

You may be a fantastic person,

you may be a caring friend

and devoted lover (to BS9) but,

I am absolutely sickened by what you posted here on this thread!

I have no idea if what i am baout to say has been alreayd said, i tried to read over the other comments but i noticed some conflicts and i am just not in the mood to read all that so i am just saying what i have to say even if it has already been said.

NOw on to the topic:

Honey you are young and you have allot of life ahead of you, if for the moment you enjoy the things you think make you goth then do them and learn what ever you need ot learn from it and if you decided latter on you are no longer inerested fine then. You are going to grow and learn and do many diffrent things in your life this is just the start.

I dont think any one here or IRL has any right to tell you were you do and dont belong, for me i am here to learn and find friends who dont judge the piss out of everything i do. I am here because i Love going out to city club for the music and to look at all the people and there imaginitve out fits and creative styles. Not every one atthe club is the same or likes the same thinngs, that goes for this board too.

I personally like the sun and out side allot, I dress in slightly diffent styles every day and i cant say i am all too goth but i do love the scene, the music and the people, i know i fit here better then any place else and i feel more comfertable, my husband was a skater when he was young and loved the dark music of the cure and many other bands that are considered goth, but he also liked punk music too and all the main stream stuff they play on the radio. He too is just diffrent then the main stream and feels more comfertable around other diffrent people.

Friends accept you for you no matter what scence or style you are. They should not argue and judge but love you for your unquieness. This get easier to handle and understand as you get older and your world opens up more to other things then just School.

How to tell if some one is goth, well it is hard to do cause not one single thing makes or breaks a goth. There are many factors and well if you have any one of those factors then well you can consider your self goth.

The biggest way to tell if you are any of the lables society gives is to explore your world, and see where you personally feel the most comfertable. If you feel comfertable around goths versus other groups then you are goth, if you feel more comfertable around preppy people then you are a preppy person, it really can be that simple i think. It is up to you to decide where you fit not any one else.

The biggest peice of advice i can give is just be you, do what makes you happy, dress how you are most comfertable, skate if you love too, listen to the music you like and dont let any one else make those choices for you.

Just be true to your self.

Me either... I managed to fit in at least on the surface but even so 7-8th grade was a HORRIBLE age for me... major culture shock switching from radical private school to chaotic public school, parents divorced, sexual abuse... it was hard to even be around middle school kids when I first started teaching 'cos it brought back so many godawful memories. And I believe it's even more difficult for kids nowadays, so many more stresses & expectations on the poor lil' cubs... so if I can make it even a tiny bit easier or less confusing for someone else to get thru that stage, then I'm bound to try.

& props to errone who took the responsibility ov offering guidance to our young friend! Here's mine for what it's worth:

The world, "society", whatever... will try to place limits on you at every turn

Don't reinforce those limits by trying to fit into any tidy little box or convenient little label.

You have many years ahead ov you to figure out Who you are

Don't get sidetracked by obssessing over What you are.

& as many have stated already, anyone who cares more about the What than the Who of you, isn't a friend in truth.

I had no idea that there were middle schoolers on this board. I assumed that everyone posting here was an adult. Anyway, I'm not going to get into it with you. You already appear to have your share of personal conflicts on the board. I did suggest that it's probably time for me to leave the board, which I'm more than ready to do.

Bah, stay, but if YOU feel you should leave the board then I guess there isn't any stopping you. I like your posts, I like you as a person, I like you on the rare occasions I see you, I enjoy conversations with you. I don't believe the feeling is mutual because our conversations have always been kinda short, but maybe thats just me. BS9 seems to like me enough though. I for one would miss you if you left.

If you're so concerned about what younger people read on DGN then why do you posts about getting blow jobs from men after massages?

Yeah, I pretty much think you rule, especially since I had never heard Crux Shadows before I met you.

I decided along time ago that all though some peoples posts get on my nerves big time...I am not leaving. Your all worth what lies beyond the surface....

We seriously need to hang out again, I have a lot of music I'm sure you've never even heard of that I'm sure you'd get into or at the very least appreciate.

If you have over 200 CDs that are bands from the Metropolis Records label, you might be a Goth.

If you have ever worn patchouli, smoked a clove gigarette, and drank absinthe in the same outing, you might be a goth.

Shall I keep on going?

Metropolis is mostly Industrial/Synthpop/EBM. I think you're confusing that label with Cleopatra http://www.cleorecs.com/ or Dancing Ferret Discs http://www.dancing-ferret.com/

Best way to see if your friends are true goths or not is to rip them open and read the tag inside them.

You know your a goth when....you go sit in a crowd of people....and your the only one in a sea of bright pretty colors......wearing all black....and everyone moves away from you within seconds.

good way to people to move out of your way

I had a professor comment once that my presence was like a black hole that sucked all the color and light out of the room....I was confused at first than I realized I was wearing all black....of course maybe it wasn't necessarily the clothes she was commenting on but either way I was amused for a minute.
