holliwood66 Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 Oh boi...I am completely geeked at the fall fashions. I've been waiting years for all the fluffy pastel/1970's and 80's garbage to go away. I just love it when this sort of thing is kind of trendy for a season...not many people pick up on baroque/luxe trends (which leaves tons of great items for me to grab on sale...to bolster the wardrobe until next time the fashion weenies decide to bring it around full circle.) I've been coveting these awesome baroque-inspired shoes that are popping up here and there. Velvet, suede, faux fur, bows, lace, pins and buckles. *oh my yesh!* I am splurging on 3 items this season: a reproduction edwardian riding jacket, knee length red silk skirt and chocolate colored cashmere wrap sweater. So what are you coveting this fall? =)
Brenda Starrr Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 Now that I'm back with BeneFit, I guess I'm going shopping. Do I need to go buy a Vogue magazine or what?
holliwood66 Posted August 15, 2005 Author Posted August 15, 2005 nah, I never buy magazines...I did take a peek at a few online industry pages and previews to see what is going to come out. Part of my graphic design/advertising homework is seeing what is out there *for color trends etc...as everyone will want their website/brochures etc. to reflect new colors for the season. (even if they are completely vile!*) This is a decent site for pics: http://www.newyorkmetro.com/fashion/fashionshows/
gothicmom Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 We were walking around the mall yesterday just window shopping. FAll fashion is here. Thats when all the pretty lacey tops and long satin skirts come out. Yummy! I could have spent a bundle!
kellygrrrrrl Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 I love fall/winter fashion The more layers the better. The chunkier, the better The darker the better.
Brenda Starrr Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 Part of me SOOOOOOO doesn't want to go shopping for clothes for this job. The other part of me has seen a few things that are making me salivate.
honeymustard02 Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 I don't understand why people must "splurg". Go shoping at the thirtstore and alter things. You'll save so much money. I guess what I'm trying to say is why does everyone feel they have to buy such expensive clothing. Does it make you feel like your worth more? Does it some how make you feel "special"? Do you really need a 700$ coat to make you feel better about the way you look? Or the way you feel? ... It just makes no bloody sense to me .. thats all .. I don't understand . <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree. I'll spend more if I really really like something. But not to make me feel better.

Do you really need a 700$ coat to make you feel better about the way you look? Or the way you feel? ... It just makes no bloody sense to me .. thats all .. I don't understand . <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There is a reason I buy new clothing - I will explain: For the most part vintage and thrift store clothing smells like death - as if it has been lurking in someone's basement for 30 years or was actually on their body when they expired. Another thing is I have very broad shoulders and small waist so it is nearly impossible to find high-quality clothing in a thrift store that fits (even though I can sew.) I also hate spending the time driving, searching, and poking through smelly racks of vintage crap to not fing anything I like.(With one exception...vintage shopping in Europe is well worth the effort.) High Quality...double french seams, silk velvet, hand rolled hems, and hand-gathered pintucks, items that will last 10 years with no problem. I "splurge" on these things as they last forever. The other stuff I buy on the cheap and wear out in a season or two. So no, I don't need to buy expensive clothing to feel like I am special, as I already am aware of how amazing I am - nice things make life better, and aesthetics are important to me...if my environment and things are beautiful it makes me happy. What else would I spend money on anyway? I go places, invest, pay my bills, have fun...what is so hard to understand? *shrugs*

I know what you mean though. I usually have good luck after sending vintage stuff to be cleaned, but if it doesn't come back smelling fresh, back to Goodwill it goes.

Brenda Starrr Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 While I love the thrift stores, the feeling of spending some serious $$$ on something really well-made turns me on.
