I need a new virus program. I've heard something about a combination virus protection/spyware blocker but that's all I know. Suggestions?

Yep, AVG is better than the vast majority of virus scanners which you have to pay for.

Great program.

You might also want to look into getting another free program called "Spybot: Search and Destroy"

It's a spyware / adware scanner and remover which also have a bunch of other hanly utilities.

A good free one is AVG.

I have AVG. It does rock. Avast! is good too, for the resident scanner function, but it uses a lot of memory.

Go to www.download.com

Get yourself the following:

AVG

ZoneAlarm (for your firewall)

WinPatrol (for your resident scanner)

WinPatrol will notify you if any settings have been changed, but it only functions when something changes, so it doesn't take up a lot of memory.

I never have any problems since I've installed these.

NOD32 is the best virus protection period. It does cost money, but it is well worth it. Its faster, better, and cheaper than most other enterprise class solutions.

AVG is really good ( as stated by above posters). Its fast, easy, free!, automatic updates for definitions and it doesn't memory hog when the resident shield is sitting in the sys tray. I can't stand using mcafee or nortons, for some reason they always get in my way.

I use Norton anti-virus and Zone Alarm firewall.

Float, do you use McAfee?

:grin

Thanks everyone.

I did download AVG, and it told me I have an embedded virus that cannot be healed.

We're sorry ma'am, the tumor is inoperable :tear

I'd hold off on re-formatting...try this first Virus removal tools. I know how much fun reformating is, I would do it everyday if I could but....but try a few un-fun things first. =)

see..game of chance knows how much fun reformating is...he cant wait for you to enjoy the pleasures.
