saechalyn Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 I need a new virus program. I've heard something about a combination virus protection/spyware blocker but that's all I know. Suggestions?
The_Dark Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 A good free one is AVG. http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
Paint it Black Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 Yep, AVG is better than the vast majority of virus scanners which you have to pay for. Great program. You might also want to look into getting another free program called "Spybot: Search and Destroy" It's a spyware / adware scanner and remover which also have a bunch of other hanly utilities.
SomeDanGuy Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 Hmm, I'll have to check out that AVG one. Two others that I use are: Trend Micro's HouseCall Panda ActiveScan (this one takes a reeeaaally long time and is more thorough than the first)
Guest Game of Chance Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 A good free one is AVG. http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have AVG. It does rock. Avast! is good too, for the resident scanner function, but it uses a lot of memory. Go to www.download.com Get yourself the following: AVG ZoneAlarm (for your firewall) WinPatrol (for your resident scanner) WinPatrol will notify you if any settings have been changed, but it only functions when something changes, so it doesn't take up a lot of memory. I never have any problems since I've installed these.
dragoth Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 NOD32 is the best virus protection period. It does cost money, but it is well worth it. Its faster, better, and cheaper than most other enterprise class solutions. nod32.com
Head Wreck Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 dont use panda scan. last time i did i found out panda itself has sickness i use clamwin
Daevion Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 AVG is really good ( as stated by above posters). Its fast, easy, free!, automatic updates for definitions and it doesn't memory hog when the resident shield is sitting in the sys tray. I can't stand using mcafee or nortons, for some reason they always get in my way.
DarkVampire Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 I use Norton anti-virus and Zone Alarm firewall.
