FRONTLINE explores the relationship between U.S. job losses and the American consumer's insatiable desire for bargains in "Is Wal-Mart Good for America?" Through interviews with retail executives, product manufacturers, economists, and trade experts, correspondent Hedrick Smith examines the growing controversy over the Wal-Mart way of doing business and asks whether a single retail giant has changed the American economy.

I saw this special on PBS a few months ago and have vowed to never shop there again. I encourage you to do the same.

Here is a link to the PBS website where you can view the entire report:

Target carries Duff Stuff and Hello Kitty. I started shopping a Target when Aym was 3 because they had cuter clothes for little girls.

Wal-Mart clothes are cheap in price and quality. We used to live in North Carolia, every one went to Wal-Mart just to hang out. So I associate Wal-Mart with Rednecks!

The reality of Wal Marts success is that they produce and sell goods at a cheaper price than their competitors.

For Americans like me living check to check - thats a very important reality.

Walmart has in effect - taken advantage of the market by way of the struggling american consumer. Of which I am. Is Walmart the Devil? I dont know - theres too many corporate Satans nowadays anyway. But is my ass broke? YEP.

soooooooo ..... I shop at Wal Mart.

Not exclusively - but I do shop there when the $$$ is tight and I need things.

Bad credit? check

Rent and utilities more than 60% of monthly income? check

Gas prices ridiculous? check

Fore mouths to feed? check

Wal-mart keeps us from being a burden on other tax payers? check

With out them a lot of the poor would be poorer.

Blame the penny pinching rich for ruining our economy.

Blame StarMegaBucks too.

Vater gets it.

And remember the Rich will gladly give you a bad guy that you can hate and yet not really touch (Wal Mart) as long as you ignoire the rest of the machine.

They love us finger pointers, and laugh at us every day.

I went to Big K yesterday cause it was close and i needed to get a bathroom scale, the cheapest way i could find to weigh my ebay packages and i found out i weigh 133 llbs ( yeah for me i lost more weight) any how i had my daughter and her friend with me and of course i had to see all the cute bratz cloths they had and so on so i think i might have a new place to shop for cloths.

As i was driving home i was thinking about this thread and this is what i came up with.........

We the consumer wanted stuff cheap, demanded chaeper prices so these big companies send all the maufacturing over seas and so on cause well it costs them less and thus sending the the saveings down to us or so they say.

So what happened all these companies sent the work else where and we are broke cause we have no jobs and now we need this shit cheap.

our own want for cheap shit has cuased us to be poor and now need the big companies to keep the shit over seas and us out of jobs.

I think we did it to our selves.

Well it is part of the problem i think any how.

i was futher thinking after i made this post that even if we started to correct ths problme the benefits from it probally wont even be seen in our life time, just like those befor us did not see how there want for cheap prices would screw it all up for us and make allot fo us worse off then our own parents were.

What happened to the next generation being better off then those befor it?

i'm not really big on shopping anywhere. i'm not a big fan of Wal-Mart either, unless it's to get art supply. there are other places for me to get my clothes, food, and other nessesities from. i'll go window shopping in all the places i need to go, see which one has the better price, and buy at that store that particular item. luckily for me, i don't have kids to worry about yet, so i can spoil myself when the time and money are in the right place. i remember a time when K-Mart was everyone's favorite place to shop, up until the whole Martha Stewart thing went on. now there's very few of them. places like Wal-Mart and Meijer are being built in place of K-Mart. i miss the days when everything was at a reasonable price. it's sad when you can say "Hey! Gas is only $2.55 per gallon! That's CHEAP!"
