Witch characters on soap "Passions"

I don't watch this series. I had no idea these characters existed. It was by chance that I was changing channels and caught all this, and watched for a time, for the most part in disbelief.

There's a character named Tabitha, played by Juliet Mills (of interest - played an unlabled intuitive/magical character named Phoebe Figililly on early 70's show "Nanny and the Professor"), who apparently has been on this soap since 1999. The residents of the town don't know she's a witch. Among other things, she's responsible for a house fire that kills a person, and attempts to kill another about a dozen different ways, failing only because the person in question is "more powerfully magic" (there are a sprinkling of other supernaturals on the show).

Her time on the show is rife with supernatural hijinks of all sorts, most "evil" in nature. Most recently, she gave birth to a demonic daughter, "Endora".

On the most recent episode, I saw much mention of assorted "witchly" things - all unoriginal, and many slanderous. Of the former nature, there's the fact that the names involved - Tabitha, Endora - are the same names of witches in the "Bewitched" series of old. Also, there was reference to non-witches as "muggles" - taken from Harry Potter.

Of the latter, the most heinous was a comment from one supernatural being to Tabitha that she basically recoils from anything having to do with "the birth of Christ".

I can't get over how unoriginal it all is - insultingly so. I mean, I know daytime soaps aren't supposed to be daily episodes of Citizen Kane, but come on! At least come up with original character names.

I have no idea how often subjects such as contempt for Christ come up, but even the one reference was shocking.

It's hard for me to believe this isn't causing an uproar in the pagan community. Maybe it is, I don't get involved with it like I did when I first started investigating paganism as a path I might myself follow. I just found it really disgusting and had to comment on it.

I have not heard of the show before this moment... What station runs it? I have many ties/contacts I can pass this along to... I'm quite surprised in the fact that it hasn't been mentioned (at least not that I have heard) as well...

I do watch soaps. I watch the ABC line up. They did have a show called Port Charles, a spin off from General Hospital.

I was going through the stations and heard Concrete Blonde being played.

I went back to see what it was. Everyone was gothed up for Halloween. I kept watchiung to look at clothes, makeup and hair. I got hooked for a year.

The show had Vampires, ghosts, angels...that sort of thing. It was fun.

Aymee and I used to watch it everyday.

It was a bit corny, but I liked it.

Dubh - it's on NBC.

A Google search on "passions witch" will give you results that include the run-down of the character's actions from 1999 through 2003 I got most of this info from here.

GENERAL HOSPITAL

By far this isn't the only supernatural story arc found on daytime TV... although I do agree that it is the most absurd and/or poorly handled. Most recently there have been vampires on Port Charles and numerous curses being thrown around to disrupt true love on General Hospital but they were at least well portrayed (at least by soap opera standards).

I also found this insulting. When the show first aired, she had a mdget accomplice named "Timmy" that helped her do her evil biddings.

Days of Our Lives (which is on before Passions) has also dabbled in the supernatural, dealing with possession and demonic murders and other such things.

I just can't help but wonder if housewives have become so bored they actually buy into this crap. What happened to the dirty and trashy love stories? Are they running out of ideas?
