soothsayer Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Dr. Laura Schlessinger is a radio personality who dispenses advice to people who call in to her radio show. Recently, she said that, as an observant Orthodox Jew, homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22 and cannot be condoned under any circumstance. The following is an open letter to Dr. Laura penned by a east coast resident, which was posted on the Internet. It's funny, as well as informative: Dear Dr. Laura: Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the other specific laws and how to follow them: When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them? I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her? I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15:19- 24. The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense. Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians? I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself? A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here? Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die? I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves? My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? - Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14) I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging. Your devoted fan, Jim
SomeDanGuy Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Seen this many times before. It's great. :grin
saechalyn Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Dr. Laura makes me want to break things. Like her head.
SomeDanGuy Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 At least we still have good old, reasonable Pat Roberson to depend on....
soothsayer Posted August 25, 2005 Author Posted August 25, 2005 Dr. Laura makes me want to break things. Like her head. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You and I both. Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians? What's up with this? I wanna own a Canadian slave. :grin
sithzanshen Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 I'm sure most of you already knew about this. If not: http://www.outcrybookreview.com/DrLauraSchlessinger.htm

sithzanshen Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Sorry about that. It was just there a minute ago. Weird. It was about her nude pictures and how she claimed that being an Athiest at the time made her do it. Appearently, she's better now and willing to condemn others for doing the same. Well, I got it to work if you're still interested.
saechalyn Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 The link is working for me. Dear lord...if there's anything that could turn me 100% straight, it's seeing Dr. laura naked.
soothsayer Posted August 25, 2005 Author Posted August 25, 2005 I heard all about her nude pictures. Hypocrites are just the best people ever.
Homicidalheathen Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Oh I already hated her but I had no idea she was this much of an ass. Being an athiest made her do it? Next she'll be blaming her own actions on the boogie man or some shit. Sorry about that. It was just there a minute ago. Weird. It was about her nude pictures and how she claimed that being an Athiest at the time made her do it. Appearently, she's better now and willing to condemn others for doing the same. Msterbeau Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Dr. Laura makes me want to break things. Like her head. Pat Robertson too... :doh
Shade Everdark Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Oh, yeah, atheism made her do it. So, I suppose Christianity in general, or Catholicism in particular, forced all the priests to molest children, hm?
Homicidalheathen Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 No but the extreme repression of sexual desire might have contributed....just my 2 cents. Oh, yeah, atheism made her do it. So, I suppose Christianity in general, or Catholicism in particular, forced all the priests to molest children, hm? <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
crunchy_pickle (5) Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Heh. This is why I'm not a big fan of organized religion. I believe in God, and believe in Jesus. I don't however believe much in doctrine and dogma. I think too many things have been lost in religion such as Old Covenant versus New Covenant, law versus love, etc. Dr. Laura apparently has no clue what the new Covenant means or why Christ was here. It sure as hell wasn't to promote Mosaic Law. When we were a worldy people, we were flesh. We needed law that concerned the flesh. When Christ died, rose, and gave us the Spirit of Truth, he gave us the ability to be dead to the world, and freed us from the world, sin, and death. While this may not mean we are physically immortal, it means that we can achieve immortality when we live again from the death we are walking and will not be harmed by the second death. Law was made for the lawless, who could not find love, truth, and peace. Love can do no harm. We are individuals, and what's wrong for one man is not necessarily wrong for another. This is why Christ told us "Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged". No servant is greater than his master so what right have I to judge another servant of my master? This is what I can't stand about self righteous bible thumpers who create spawn like Dr. Laura. They use God's Law to judge, yet if you believe in Jesus you know that if you love God with your whole heart, soul, and mind, love your neighbor as yourself, and love your enemies too, you have already fulfilled the law. God's Law and greatest command is to love one another. One of Christ's greatest warnings was to not turn children away from God, yet biblethumping hypocrites make a habit out of it daily. It's not hard to see why people lose faith or only believe in what they see. I found God as a child long before I found the Catholic church that I left as a teenager. I don't need a man made institution to tell me how to find God or live my life, when 90% if not a greater percentage of it's members have blind belief in words, doctrine, dogma, and law. I'd rather just know than believe personally. If I want to be a good man someday, I'll just follow my heart, because I know there is something greater in us, than any book, building, organization, or religion. Every man's soul is a battlefield. When my love conquers my hate, I'll be doing ok. Where anyone else is concerned, I lack the right to judge despite the fact that I do it more often than I should. I'd rather not be a hypocrite personally. By the same measures that we judge, shall we be judged. How can I say what someone else does is wrong when I do it myself, and then expect forgiveness? I guess if I was Catholic again I could go to a confessional booth and be forgiven all, but I really just don't believe in that. I don't think there's a living man on this planet who has the authority to absolve the sins of anyone. Just my two cents (and a few more).
Steven Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 She's a big yahoo, reads too much of her own press, and like me and you - definately is NOT God. I'll go out on a limb as a Christian here. Do I beleive Homosexuality is a sin? Yes. Do I have my own sin in my life that can even overshadow the dreaded sin of homosexuality? FUCK YEA. A sin is a sin is a sin is a sin is a sin - if you beleive and follow that sort of thing, which I do. There are no degrees of sin. Thats all non-biblical controlling bullshit. I'm a sinner. My name is Steven. "HI STEVEN" By the way. Until I moved to Michigan - I used to go camping in the woods and stay in a cabin several times a year (and spend Xmas with) several Lesbian friends who I loved quite dearly. Used to drink booze and play yahtzee with them too. We were people. We were friends. We loved each other. Tat took precedence over my sordid christianity and their sordid gayness. By the way - Whats the first commandment of Christ? To love one another. Dr, Laura is worthless. She's the Sanhedrin that Christ himself hated and called a brood of vipers. Please folks - if you can - dont let the Dr Laura's of the world (and I know...theres millions of them) fool you into beleiving that they love God. They dont even know him, or his son. Steven

Despite Mosaic Law, and Paul's prejudice, I believe certain things besides food were made clean in the eyes of God. I don't see what is sexually immoral about two people loving each other and sharing that love. I used to feel differently about this, but I've grown a bit since then. I believe in love more than law now. It seems I had a lot of Catholic skin to shed between 16 and now. I can only go by what my heart tells me, and my heart tells me there is nothing wrong with another man loving another man, or another women loving another woman. If I was into guys, I wouldn't think me being in a homosexual relationship would be a sin. However, if a man felt that homosexuality was wrong, and he did it, well that might be a sin. I don't think sins have absolutes unless they defy love.
the eternal Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 I heard all about her nude pictures. Hypocrites are just the best people ever. Well, if you missed Dr Laura nude, you missed, well nothing, really. I like that she wanted the pictures so she could look back when she was old and decrepit, and view herself back when she was... less old and decrepit. The guy who distributed her nudes to the people I knew, mercifully photoshopped the ten commandments onto them. There was something oddly exciting and sickening about seeing that big tablet between her legs-spread eagle. She was more vibrant and free back then. BTW, am I the only that has noticed, ugly angry people age horribly! It's like they make there worst most crotchity expression and their face just STAYS LIKE THAT! How that woman sells books is beyond me! Yeah, that's one of those things I'll never agree on personally. Thanks for picking up the slack. It's like what I would write, if I wuz smahrt and intulecktuahl lik U!
Homicidalheathen Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 Um ok. So this guy just aproached me online.
