well this guy did make a sound similar to the ciadas noise but a little different more stressed and not so much of the normal buzz type sound, so it might just be a ciadas.

The wings are transparent actually but i dont know if thats from a ride in the kitty's mouth or its natural color.

Either way the bugg is still in jar and the kids are so fasinated with it, i am more or less like can i throw it out now cause ughhhhhh yuckie.

ANd it is still fluttering around in the jar ughh to nasty and kinda a mean but kinds n buggs ya know.

Yah I know how ya feel. I used to be hardcore peta but always let the kids kill, mame....whatever.....after all they are my beliefs.....and I was taught how to hunt....so.....I want my kids to chose for themselves and learn all they can.

I'm pretty sure its a moth. Yesterday, one of those things hit the windshield of my ambulance and then got caught up under the wipers. They are huge! I thought it cracked the window *lol*

Am I the only one that finds this man hellarious?  God I love you. :devil

I know, the eternal cracks me the fuck up on a regular basis!

There was this HUGE spider in my house the other day and I was freaking out trying to get it to go in a paper cup so I could toss it outside, and the cat was trying to play with it, but I didn't let her because I didn't want her to get bitten. I went online and found it it was some kind of wolf spider...I hope it didn't lay eggs! :blink

feathereared antenae and 2 sets of wings makes it a moth imho

Yes,

yes you are.

BTW,

Why is lillith always the one to get the good presents?

The closest I ever came was this:

I spent 3 1/2 months talking my gf down off buildings, out of manic-depressive fits, away from suicidal gang bangs, paying off cops, and of course,

paying-off-cops-who-wanted-a-girl-prone-to-manic-depressive-fits-for-their-sacrifice-in-suicidal-gang-bangs-and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt

To this day, I wear the shirt with pride

Anyway, I would've preferred the over-size flesh-eating cicada/moth,

but lillith,

as usual

gets all the spoils. =(

at least your cat brought something home ALIVE! When I lived in Mt. Clemens i lived near the river. I had cats that went outside and would bring home fish heads for presents. Fortunately they would drop them off on the front porch and not in the house but ewwwwwwwwww.

I tried the bug site all I got was spam.

I love the butterfly house at the detroit zoo in the winter for my S.A.D. this reminds me of some I see in there.

haha... ok ... "GEEKMODE ON" Didnt get a chance to read this thread before.... when i was a lad i was a Tree, Plant and Bug Identifying fool. Nature rocks. Despite the fact that bugs creep me out a bit, i still liked to identify them. Been awhile though. *cracks nuckles*

With massive numbers of STILL unidentified specices of insects out there, its hard to get the actual >specicies=)

Then "Sphinx Moths" /Hawkmoths which look like our guy here. Tapered top and bottom of the body, long narrow front-wings wings, jet-fighterish. Some of these guys actually look , really like stealth fighters with various bright colors and such. Some of them are pretty neat.

That guy looks closest to the pictures i have (and found a few more on the net) to a "Tobbacco Sphinx Moth"

post-1-1125371510_thumb.jpg

From what im reading on the net, basicly "norththern midwest" moths dont have much documentation and as such not all that easy to identifiy.

I dont really see ANY sphinx/hawk months with the totally clear wings like that guy has. Some of the hummingbird moths have partially clear wings but not totally clear like that. Im thinking that the clear wings is not an effect of the moth dying though. (guess it could be) And i could be totally wrong about all of this.

Ok that was fun. Yes im a nerd, and proud of it!!

Damn, Troy. Impressive.

I too share the dismay at the unusual insects showing up in Michigan lately. In 1998 when Jon and I got married and lived in Traverse City for a month or so, we saw a spider at one of the bathrooms that looked like something from Florida. I'd never seen anything that big in Michigan, and Jon wondered if it was an accidental transplant.

Still, it's much better here than NC was. I wouldn't walk barefoot in grass down there, and here I'll actually sleep in it.
