A friend of mine got a dead squirrel dressed in doll clothes from his ex-gf, so we reciprocated, and gave her a birthday cake with asphixiated mice with their asses in the air head in the cake...........

He took pix, but I don't have them. It was funny............

(For the PETA people........the mice were on thier way out....feeder mice....AND I didn't do it............ :erm .)

Hey i made mention befor i lived a very sheltered life........ and withteh ouse being super duper clean and me waiting for grannie to show up i am kinda bored.

I really am not looking for you guys to tell me what it is, i think it is a moth... it just blows my mind at how freaking big it is and the cat brought it home, almost like he wanted to save it and play with it. I did google moths/buggs/and some others and found things simlar but nothing exactly like that.

I just thought it was interesting cause i have never seen anything like it before or that close any how.

I got a kick out of it thought other might tooo.

Sorry

Yehai had wondered that too, I have lived in this location befor and sepnt allot of time out side when iw as kid nad i still never seen naything like it befor, I also notice allot f dragon flys around here too whcih i never saw when i was growing up. But i like those. And i also noticed there are no more lady buggs around here there used ot be a ton when i was growing up.

can you tell me the size in inches?

From head to butt it is 2 inches and with its wings closed it measures 2 1/2 to 3 inches i did not get up close and personal or anything so those are close measurements.

you know now that you say that- i have not noticed one single lady bug this summer. :( and i love them. and i see dragonflies too and never saw them growing up. out in livonia i see the bugs that light up too. i never saw those growing up. not one time.

I think that is a mature Cicada - they are everywhere this time of year...you can hear them buzzing away in the trees. My cats found one coming out of its' burrow and went totally spaztastic trying to figure out what it was/if it was edible.

i love the sound of cicadas. it reminds me of summer at my grandma's growing up.

I saw a dead insect about the size of a small bird dead outside my apartment a couple wks ago...my knowledge about insects is limited so I have clue what it was. Cicada's get kinda large so that would be my best guess....although I swear this thing looked like it migrated from the rainforest.

i have seen 2 REALLY big bugs in my yard this year. actually, it was the same type of bug 2 different times. it was flying up high and i thought it was bird. then it came lower and i was like omg!! what the hell is that thing?? it was big and it freaked me out. biggest bug i have ever seen.

yeah, I should have done a search while it was fresh in my mind...cause maybe it was the same kinda of bug? maybe its a mutated insect invasion...watch out for dive bombers

i was ready to run for sure ;)

it was large enough to kill a small mammal, like a mouse, if it was predatory.....I hope these things don't start eating small birds and mutate larger

All this talk of bugs is making me homesick....the roaches in AZ actually take flight and dive bomb you from the counter tops.

we got dragonflies in our pond this year. which is very odd ans my pond is only 2' x 3'

ladybugs. seen some black uns with red spots, but none of the more common red with black types

By the way...I like your silly pics Lilith...reminds me of when my kids were young and I was stuck at home all day.....in a rug rat rocko's modern life cartoon world combo.

Without seeing what colouration was on the wings, it's hard to classify but it's definately a moth. No, moths do not bite. They're really only nighttime butterflies when one gets down to it.

After doing a little searching, I did find one that's larger than the one you showed right here.

I had hoped to find an example of what I think your moth possibly is but no real luck so far.
