Killer_Bunnie Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Microwave carmel corn...I miss it still But what I don't miss a bit...there were these fruity colored tablets for kids to put in milk that made it fizzy and usually blue, it was really bad. oh, and I miss cartoons that looked like actualy people, like He-man, not this freaky looking Dora/powerpuff crap I had to watch today.
bean Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Ewww..does anyone remember the drink that had the little globs of some gel like substance in it? It looked like a lava lamp or something... I think it was called Orbitz or some shit like that...nasty!
mallochai Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 How about New York Seltzer? Apparently it still exists but not in the same 10 ounce glass containers but rather a typical 16 ounce plastic container. I havn't seen it in stores since about 1988 though. Anyone else remember it? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> YES!!!! I was just thinking that! I haven't seen it since a field trip I went on in .... oh god... I can't even remember when, but I'm pretty sure I was in elementary. I loved that stuff when I was a kid, every flavor. I liked to peel the styrofoamy labels off the bottles in tiny curly cues. :laughing Although... from what I could find... it has indeed been discontintued, again I suppose. Sadly. Those bastards...

I think it was called Orbitz or some shit like that...nasty! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Haha.... I liked Orbitz, but only the clear one with the orange balls in it. I had a bandmate once who had every flavor saved up on a shelf in his house, they actually glowed in the blacklight. Not sure if they did that upon original production, or only after years of shelf life...
mallochai Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 oh... and as if three replies in a row aren't enough... I'm really surprised you don't see squirt in the south, Critter. My friends used to drink shots called Alabama Slammers, basically squirt and souther comfort in a shot glass, slam it on the table (with your hand over it) and drink quickly. Of course, the alabama part is probably just a clever play on sound and the fact that it's southern comfort... but they, you get the point.
Vivian Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 double double your refresment, double double your enjoyment, no single gum refreshens your breath like doublemint doublemint gum!! ^~~ for Marblez~~^ And heh, squirt is revising its formula right now, trying to come up with a better aftertaste. *i did some survey for their company a couple of weeks ago* and you know what i miss right now.. a person... a very special person. Dg.n name was MrMortician (if i remember correctly) Fondly remembered as Taz. *tips imaginary tophat off to an old friend*

Hahah. Finally. Unfortunately they can be confused with Old Navy commercials
Fierce Critter Posted July 15, 2005 Author Posted July 15, 2005 How about New York Seltzer? Now there are still a couple of Hardees around metro Detroit but before they were all over. I know it's still a National chain but in Michigan they have really declined. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I missed all of this somehow... I remember NYS. My sister and I were crazy about that when it first came out. I totally forgot about it until you mentioned it, though. Hardees are ALL OVER down here in NC. They're in about every town. I used to like them when they were still plentiful in Michigan for their mushroom & swiss burgers. They came back out with those down here, but they changed them and now I'm not that crazy about them. Last I knew, there were a lot of Hardees in the U.P.

I think I have a bottle back at my parents' house.

None of the major groceries, nor any of the convenient stores. As far as the drink you describe, I had those as long ago as 1990 in a bar in Riverview, but they just called them Slammers. I don't know what they put in them - they were sweet & fizzy, and didn't seem to have a very strong alcohol content.
Kiss The Midget Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 i miss jello pudding pops too. those where good. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i loved them and carnation breakfast bars ZOTS...i miss them album cover bubble gum
Fierce Critter Posted July 15, 2005 Author Posted July 15, 2005 i loved themand carnation breakfast bars ZOTS...i miss them album cover bubble gum <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm almost positive they still make Carnation breakfast bars. There was a girl in elementary school who hated them, yet her mother gave them to her every day with her lunch. Basically, I got one every day with MY lunch thanks to her. :grin ZOTS - those were SO cool! I only used to get them from the camp store at the campground my family went to up north, however. Here's one: Jello 1-2-3. I know it was gimmicky, but DAMN that stuff was GOOD!!! My husband's grandmother has a box in her cupboards. I'd have been tempted to swipe it if I wasn't sure it was mite infested by now.
Guest Game of Chance Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 The McRib, not like I had one or anything :whistling Oh and Orbit the magazine/newspaper...man was that good. Put MetroTimes and RealDetroit to shame.
mallochai Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 hmmm.. FIZZ candies. They came in strips of six or ten, I dont' remember, each one individually wrapped, multiple flavors. Basically a piece of hard candy with a substance in the middle that would fizz in your mouth and get foamy for a few seconds. I used to hoard those things as a kid, we got them for like, ten cents a strip at the corner store in Lake Park, MN. And along that line, the Lions Club puts out a crunchy hard round candy that's kind of fizzy, in their little donation boxes with the mints. They used to be like, fifty cents per pack. I saw some when I was in Seward last month, they've gone up to a dollar, so I had to buy two for nostalgia sake.

Scary Guy Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Rock and Roll Radio (don't know if that was posted or not already) But seriously. Some of the pirate radio stations, or the really good (imported) stuff from canada that you still get on occasion. Or just radio that didn't suck from the 80's, when there really were less commercials and less talk.
Rozzlyn Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Oh and Orbit the magazine/newspaper...man was that good. Put MetroTimes and RealDetroit to shame. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Orbit was THE BOMB! I have the last issue in my box of old magazines. My ex almost threw it away when he and I first moved in together, but I told him "NO! THAT'S THE LAST ISSUE OF ORBIT!!" "It's what?" "The last issue of Orbit. Throw it away and I kill you!" Which is funny, cos he's lived i the area almost his entire life, and I never saw Orbit until the fifth-to-last-issue, after I got back from London. I wish I'd saved them all, at this point. :tear

Guest Game of Chance Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Rember Elvis Hitler? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> oh hell yeah... For some reason you just reminded me of a local band...
