Paint it Black Posted August 31, 2005 Posted August 31, 2005 Though we tend to think of hummingbirds as cute, dainty little things, in reality they make bold and fierce competitors. They don't let their guard down for a moment while defending their territories from other hummingbirds. They must also watch out for other animals that might prey on them, such as American kestrels in North America or tarantulas in South America. Praying mantises are also known to capture and kill hummingbirds, as a reader from West Chester, Pennsylvania, describes. - BWD Link
Paint it Black Posted August 31, 2005 Author Posted August 31, 2005 Poor baby!!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It got what it deserved, a slow, painful death... :devil
Marblez Posted August 31, 2005 Posted August 31, 2005 It got what it deserved, a slow, painful death... :devil <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Deserved?? oh man, have you no heart?? What did sweet little hummingbirds ever do to you??
Dollardave Posted August 31, 2005 Posted August 31, 2005 I don't like that picture I'm into animal rights.
The_Dark Posted August 31, 2005 Posted August 31, 2005 Sweet little humming birds will attack you for getting within 10 feet of them. They are mean spirited little birds... They will also attack anything else near hem... mean mean mean little birds. How does that picture in anyway break any animals rights?

LuluVox Posted August 31, 2005 Posted August 31, 2005 As long as no mantises try to eff with the one on my back, we're good. That one will kick your ass. Damn it, posting a picture of it is proving difficult. Oh well, whatever, here's a shitty one from right after it was done.
gothicmom Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 Holy Cow!!! Thats awesome!!! Something so small preying on something so much larger!
Paint it Black Posted September 1, 2005 Author Posted September 1, 2005 Deserved?? oh man, have you no heart?? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> "No! I have no heart, I feel no love. Nor fear, nor joy, nor sorrow. I am hollow... and I will live forever. "
bean Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 I've been 1 foot or less away from a hummingbird before and it never tried to attack me. Anyway, as far as that picture being an animal rights issue, it isn't. It's just nature at work. It would be an animal rights issue if some asshole was plucking out the hummingbird's feathers while it was still alive to make some over priced clothing.
Daevion Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 I work for the evil empire...so trust me when I say that a mantis taking out a humming bird is so far from being an "animal rights" issue its funny.....its simply nature at her best. I can't go into details about what I've seen at work, but trust me you don't want to know.
