I think my 20-eye Docs don't fit right

I wore my brand-new (actually purchased months ago) 20-eye red patent Dr. Marten's boots to Mephisto's & City Club this past Saturday.

I'm not sure they fit right. I'm plus-sized, and have larger calves, though not as big as they could be for a fat chick. I've somehow kept a pair of legs that even my mother has noticed & complimented.

But even so, I was able to lace them all the way up to the top, with no leg showing on either side of the tongue at the top. From the first eyelets to just above my ankles, I can lace them ENTIRELY closed - sides meeting flush with each other with no tongue showing through. But it's at the ankle that I think somethings' not right.

They don't hug my ankles, but instead sorta crease-up and bag (as much as stiff patent leather can "bag"). I can't lace them any tighter at the ankle - there's just no way, no tongue is showing as it is. And they fit my foot perfectly, so it's not like I can go any smaller with the size.

My ankles are pretty normal sized. Matter of fact, from my toes to where the meat of my calf muscle starts, I have the legs of a regular-sized woman.

Being lace-ups, I CAN pull them pretty much all the way up to my knee, so it's not a matter of them slouching down, they're just big at the ankle.

Aren't they supposed to be form-fitting? My Italian black patent mid-calf boots are, and always have been as far as I can remember.

I'll strap both on tomorrow and take pictures to share. But I just wanted to put a feeler out there to see if this is to be expected - this is my first pair of Docs. I'd hate to think I can't wear them, I paid a lot and really like them.

I suppose I could have them altered to fit by a good cobbler, but man, that would probably be expensive, and I already paid a lot for them.

I've had boots that did the same thing and I've had boots that didn't. I have no idea why it does that either.

I've got the same problem with my 20 hole docs, although I think in my case they are 1 or 1/2 size too large. I've had these docs for several years maybe more, I don't know why they do that, my new rocks don't.

tbh. you need space around the ankle for the leather to fold.

its taken my mangled leg a long time to heal as the ankle tends to fill the boot up snugly (due to mis set bones) and i have issues with some boots for the leather bending and squeezing the back of my ankles etc.

room is good

ARRRGH I have had the exact same problem and it is SO annoying! I don't think it's anything to do with being plus-sized (though I am too) but I've heard lots of people gripe about this. Seems like something some boots do, some don't. I haven't come up with anything that makes it stop.

Well, it sounds like they're supposed to be like this.

But I don't like it. So I'm selling them. Got them on the classifieds forum, as well as Craigslist and some local yard sale groups on Yahoo.

And I SO wanted a pair of red patent boots. =( And I just can't do high-heel ones like Demonias.

What I do is wear a pair of thin, high socks (not thin trouser socks), then scrunch the socks down. It will help take up the extra space.

I hope that helps.

Thanks for the tip, but it's not that I want the extra space taken up - I want it GONE.

My Italian boots form-fit, and it's flattering. These make my ankles look horrible.

I'll find something else. Just hope I can sell these.

Mine do the same thing. It sucks.. and I paid ALOT for the,, mail order sucks sometimes..

Unfortunately, if I sell them, I can't buy replacements. Too many bills to catch-up right now.

But at least they've only been worn once, so I should be able to get what I paid for them.

Someday, there will be a pair of red patent boots in my future, oh yes. Someday.

They did irritate my ankles a bit, but I'm sure that'll end soon. Breaking in new shoes/boots sucks.
