Head Wreck Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 yet another Peugeot is trashed by an incompetant driver my sister the gold 306 up by her BF's last night as she was unable to drive home. passing her BF's on the way back from physiotherapy we wondered why the two police cars up by her BF's house. the car had been rear ended while parked on the road stationary. car is written off. the driover hit the car with such force as to make the car skip over an extra raised curb, bucle the rear quarter (and pugs are built like tanks) and the only thing that stopped the pug going further into her car was her engineblock. she claimed that a driver came out of the cemetary without looking so she had to swerve to avoid it. so lets look at that shall we (excuse the shite photo's sony picture phone) the van is exiting the cemetary, the gold car on far right is where the peugeot is. i think she had time to stop from the car/dog/babycart/ogre/fairy/sasquatch dont you? i think that she was going to fast and to tight to the parked cars thats how hard she hit it. you can see where she hit her ford KA onto our pug. a tad to close for a clip btw. that was the police taking her statement down in writting. i dont know if you can get a perception of how high that curb was, but its a bit of a bastard to mount it with the engine ruunning, gearbox in first and handbrake off. let alone a small 3 doo hatch shunt an exceptionaly heavy 1.9 diesel large hatch onto that curb. a tad over the limit of 30 miles per hour do you thinkl? espeacially with this glass distribution (her lenses, mine were remarkably in one piece. though when a hyundai wrapped itself over the nose of my car waiting at a junction 2 years ago (pug 306, 1.9 diesel again) the lenses were both intact or salvagable even though her B pillars (of the hyundai) were buckled i am so pissed off now. looks like i'll be taking on my sistsers share of driving chores for my mum untill she recovers. one perfectly good low milage diesel written off. grand.
Paper Hearts Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Looks like she was driving on the wrong side of the road, too. Yes, I'm joking. That sucks.
Marblez Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Sorry HW, I remember when you were looking for that car.... good luck gettin another
Head Wreck Posted September 28, 2005 Author Posted September 28, 2005 i'm only glad no one got hurt on either side i really dont want to tell solicitors to naff off again about injury claims
LadyWindstone Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 I'm glad that you weren't hurt too. I hope things work out for the best for you.
Msterbeau Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 At least you got to meet the driver. My Suzuki Swift was written off a few years ago. Someone smashed into it and sent it 50 feet. They took off before I even saw them, even though I heard the impact from the house. How they could still drive considering the damage they did to my car still baffles me. Lookee:
Head Wreck Posted September 29, 2005 Author Posted September 29, 2005 eek. suzuki... why on earth did pontiac want to rebadge one of those ah, sorry they rebadged the vauxhall morano as well didnt they....
Msterbeau Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 They rebadge a lot of shit don't they?? These days they hide it a lot better though. It's a Suzuki Swift GT but I dug up some Pontiac Firefly decals when I worked at GM Design Center. The union guys would be less likely to mess with it that way...plus it's fun when no one's ever heard of that kinda car before. (Firefly was sold only in Canada.)
Head Wreck Posted September 30, 2005 Author Posted September 30, 2005 tesco insurance called today (the company thier with not that cars insurance company), they offered a courtosy car and any help whatsoever to get the damage on ours assessed. nice company. msterbau: pontiac come under GM i take it? i remember last time i checked the pontiac site they had under thier compact range something the size to the old vaxhaul astra estate (midsized hatch here, the estate is about the length of a std saloon here) crazy place your country is. a friend who moved to boston has just moved again to a small town. he's still complaining about obscene amount of gas guzzling SUV's there. (becoming a problem here too. most never see a patch of mud) what is it with you americans and large cars. thier getting smaller of late but wow. an avereage sized estate here a compact there? just to note: those that remember tanky from the crypt, she's just been given a 59 caddy.... jammie bint. a car like that would see an end to my terminaly singleness.
Msterbeau Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 SUV's are "safer" and people here like to see over traffic. Getting hard to do when they all have tall vehicles... :confused Personally, I like having a low car and looking under them... That car you mentioned was sold here as the Pontiac "LeMans". Heh.
Head Wreck Posted September 30, 2005 Author Posted September 30, 2005 hardly a car i'd take to lemans. it'd get pissed over by the astons, lambo's, mercs and porschers edit: on a note of safer... i was going to use this as an argument for saving for a landie defender 110 inch to militirise as pannels are cheap pressed aluminium and the chasis a very slightly modified pig iron rover saloon chasis. you just dont bend em, whereas pannls are unbolt and attach for £20-30 but the puegeot and ford's damage clearly show that the ford nearly ended up underneath it, and its not a perticularly a high car (infact its quite low, even by newer production pug standards). the ford crumpled untill the engine block hit the bulkhead (and caved that in a little i belive) a big SUV or a landie would have ended up on the passenger of the KA's lap. maybe if everyone drove ordinary cars in towns and cities it'd be safer for all. not just the SUV owner. SUV's and other 4x4 vehicles have no call for school runs, they should be kept only for what they were intended for. getting to hard to get to places of std roads and not driven at roadway speeds either
Msterbeau Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 I'd be perfectlt happy (And so would the worlds oil supplies) if people here drove small sedans, wagons or hatchbacks. If you HAVE to tow a trailer...fine... get a big truck, otherwise, stop being such a vain selfish bunch of slobs. How's that for generalizing? :grin
Head Wreck Posted October 1, 2005 Author Posted October 1, 2005 indeed SUV's are for soccer moms or rednecks and on the rare occasion. someone who genuinely needs one
ZhukovCodeslinger Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 its just wierd looking at British wrecks.... SUVs love to roll over and kill unbelted occupants... they also like to inspire feelings of invulnerability and people dont always wear their belts... on our way to pauls on saturdy we saw a mustang that got rear ended on the free way by a large suv. the driver of the suv went through the windshield and ended up in pieces hanging out of the back of the mustang (which was peeled up like a bannana)..... both vehicles were almost unrecognizable... but thats what happens when a SUV hits a parked car doing 80 on the freeway.... by the way... there was lots of gore on the road and paramedics trying to save the glop of meat that had been the SUV driver.... I had indian curry a couple hours later and it was tasty!

Stay off the median!!!! I witnessed an accident this morning. A woman in a minivan got rear ended by another woman in an SUV... locked em up on a wet road and "crash"!!! Both drivers were fine ..a little shaken up. The woman in the SUV was like "This car has been such bad luck". And I'm thinking... "No, it's driven by an incompetent and unobserving driver!!!!" :doh As for SUV's... yeah... They flip over more easily. Imagine that? Physics you idiots!!!! The media reported it like it was some revealation.
