saechalyn Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 This is very annoying...I dye my hair black, have been for years. But I have yet to find a brand that doesn't fade...and fade quickly. I don't like the "soft black" shades and like to stick to blue-black. I've used feria starry night, and the color is gorgeous when I do it but begins to fade immediately the first time I wash it. I am now working my way through the brands at Sally beauty supply but the same thing happens! I never swim in chlorinated pools and I only use shampoo for color-treated hair. What the hell?? Anybody ever run into this problem or want to suggest other brands? Thanks!
Onyx Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 Same thing happens to my red. I generally color it every two weeks! I like it to stay bright.
kellygrrrrrl Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 The Colors will always fade...unfortunately. I am for the "Shampoozled" campaign...Don't wash your hair as much!
saechalyn Posted October 14, 2005 Author Posted October 14, 2005 I try not to, but it's very oily (even with dye) and drives me nuts. I know colors fade, but I keep hearing people complain about how whenever you dye your hair black you have to wait for it to grow out, so I thought I was doing something wrong. *shrugs* oh well.
unchaste Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 I dye my hair with Miss Clairol, Black Velvet #51D. I don't notice a lot of fadage. I've been dying my hair this same color for over a year now, and will continue to do so as long as it annoys my mother. Yes, I get that at Sally's, and I use 20 Volume Oreal Creme Developer (higher developer will turn your black to green). I do believe that they have a blue-black shade, as well.
soothsayer Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 I am for the "Shampoozled" campaign...Don't wash your hair as much! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I do the same.
bean Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 You have hard water. That's the problem. When I dyed my hair black, it faded quickly, and when I dye it red, it fades quickly. Hard water does this (though red normally fades faster anyway because the color molecules are small). I found shampoo and crap that helps deal with water issues, but I can't remember where, though I know I found it by looking online.
honeymustard02 Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 I believe I used Clairol Blue Black when I did mine and it stuck. The blue washed out but the black stayed BLACK. I'll have to look to make sure on the brand and get back to you.
Lilith Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 I was told a very long time a go not to was hyour hair Dyed or not more then a couple of times a week, If you have to due to oil problems they suggested to just use a tiny bit of shampoo and only apply it to your roots not your whole head of hair, the rinsing of the shampoo will wash away any oil n debri atthe ends of you hair with out pulling out to much, the ends of you hair needs the oil not your roots. Also when you conditiner (which is when i notice the most fadding happens) only apply it lightly to the tips of your hair, this will elssen the time you have to wash the roots and keep the ends looking helathy and shinny. Also i get the conditoner and shampoo mixed for the kids cause they waste so much any how i was out of my stuf and i used theres for a bit with the same pattern as above and the Fadding happend less. Also i would think (i am just guessing here) trying using colder water to wash your hair, just warm enough not to be too cold, if you think about it when you wash your cloths if you dont want fadding or bleeding you wash in cold water, the same princiaple might just work here too. If you try this let me know how it works out for you.
holliwood66 Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 For color fade problems: Use Wella permanent blue-black haircolor as it contains lots of pigment. You might also want to try Igora blue-black from ebay witj 20 V developer. After you color, seal the hair shaft with an application of clear Jazzing or Ardell clear color gloss. After you rinse out the color, apply the color gloss and cover your head with a showercap and towel. If you have a heat cap this works even better. Leave the gloss on for 30-60 minutes without heat, or 20 with heat. Rinse and condition. Your hair will be extra glossy and the color should stay true for at least 4-6 weeks. This works well for red shades too...just use a red tone gloss instead of neutral/clear. Oh yeah, and the cool water for washing your hair does help as well~
Nienna Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 I always had this problem too.. The black would totally fade out! I got it done professionally and it stuck though... too well. When I went to get it stripped they couldn't get it to lift and I had to chop it. Make sure you want to be black and never go back before you hit the salon. :fear
Homicidalheathen Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 I get clairol color max or ferria either in blue black at sally no fading This is very annoying...I dye my hair black, have been for years. We'll see how it goes!
