mauraway Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 It's Halloween season, people have lots of activities they want to attend, but transport costs alot. What to do? Carpool! mauraway ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm a simple man, and I have a simple plan - Klaus Nomi MI Goth- Industrial Rideboard -Carpool! share rides/ gas money, meet new people, help each other out. mauraway Posted November 3, 2005 Author Posted November 3, 2005 Carpooling is always a good idea, for everyone involved. That's why I set up a central location for people to list their information so they can find others in their area who are interested in going to the same events. The rideboard is not about me, it is about everyone helping each other. Everyone wins. Lots of people check the MI Goth - Industrial Rideboard, but in order for it to work to its full potential, more people need to list their carpooling ride wants and / or offers. The more people sign up, the more likely people will find people to carpool with . Obviously people should use their judgement in accepting or offering rides to strangers, but I've never had any problems myself. I wish everyone luck ! mauraway Posted November 3, 2005 Author Posted November 3, 2005 .... has anyone ever taken you up on this? NO im not trying to be a cock etc... just wondering since nobody seems to take interest. Hi, Thanks for your interest in the rideboard. Yep people do use it. And yes I have found rides this way. I've met some nice people too. I just advertise the thing [ in various locations in venues], and people who are interested, use it. People who aren't interested, whatever their reasons may be, don't use it. People usually don't reply to my advertisements for the rideboard, because they aren't discussion topics. It is just an announcement of a resource that is available to anyone who wants to use it. It is not centered around me. It is a resource that is open to everyone-- not everyone feels comfortable using such a resource. That is fine, everyone has different ways of doing things. Everyone should do what makes them comfortable. I see no other resource like the MI Goth Industrial Rideboard out there, so that's why I set it up a several years ago. Having one more resource for making one's life better never hurts. If anyone has questions or concerns about using the rideboard, feel free to contact me in private. Thanks again for your interest.

Rozzlyn Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 How many times are you going to bump this before you realize that WE DON"T CARE!!! BUY A CAR. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So.... When you get rides from YOUR friends, carpooling is OK, but heaven forbid anybody get a ride from anybody else? Wow, way to be diplomatic there.
Scary Guy Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 Freedom of speach is a wonderful thing. So is saving the planet. Now that I have a car again (a really nice car) I'm giving rides for gas money (because it sucks gas like nobodies business). Jinx, you come from tree town, you should be all for saving the planet and stuff.
Aralis Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 I would use it but it seems no one lives near me that would be willing to take me for gas money. I live far from everyone here in Flint town. :erm
Slept with ghost Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 i would say this is a good idea and im always right
Jinx Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 i would say this is a good ideaand im always right <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I definatly think it's a good idea to carpool it is better for the enviroment and Scary Guy is right my A2 hippy ass likes that. However the ride board has ben around for several years now and has never taken off. Time to stop pushing it so hard.

Kinda like Necto which you push every other week. I think the only problem with the ride board is that users can't add/delete/edit their own entries, they have to send an e-mail and wait for the change. But it has worked for me and a couple other people. Jinx if you don't like seeing the posts just skip over and ignore it, or help to promote it and turn it into something big.

Rozzlyn Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 True, but if you don't push it, it won't ever take off. Kinda like Necto which you push every other week. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Exactly. Even if people don't use it right away, at least they'll know about it should they ever decide to use it. I think the only problem with the ride board is that users can't add/delete/edit their own entries, they have to send an e-mail and wait for the change. But it has worked for me and a couple other people. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's worked for me a couple of times, mainly cos the people on there who are offering rides, you know, are really offering rides and not actually getting rides from other people themselves. Jinx if you don't like seeing the posts just skip over and ignore it, or help to promote it and turn it into something big. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, seriously, Jinx. Nobody's asking you to be everybody's friend, cos you obviously aren't (and I can think of several other people who hate you for reasons I probably shouldn't mention here, what with the DGN moderators assuming any reason to hate somebody is a reason to keep one's mouth shut -- unless that person voted for Kerry or Nader), but either offer some constructive advice or keep your dissent to yourself. It's pretty obvious to everybody that you've got a hard-on for being mean to Mo, but if you think ragging on her good ideas in public like this is going to impress people, you're sorely mistaken.

Jinx if you don't like seeing the posts just skip over and ignore it, or help to promote it and turn it into something big. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i agree. if you don't advertise it, it won't get noticed. and we have new members joining daily. people will see this and appreciate it's purpose when/if they need it. and i agree too that if someone does not like a post, it can always be skipped over/ignored or it should be promoted in a positive way since it is not a bad thing to begin with.
Rozzlyn Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 I would use it but it seems no one lives near me that would be willing to take me for gas money. I live far from everyone here in Flint town. :erm <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, that's the thing about the Rideboard: you can add your info that you are looking for or offering a ride, no matter where in Michigan that you live, and it will always be there and people who are looking at it for the first time will see your info and say "Hey, I can offer this person a ride! I'll e-mail them, cos it suck to drive from Flint (or whereever) to detroit by myself." Since new people are always joining DGN and the LiveJournal communities where it's promoted, new people will *always* at least take a minute to look at it, so, say you live in Flint and want a ride to Shitty Club. Somebody new, who has a car that they drive to Shitty every week takes a look cos s/he wants to see if anybody needs a ride. They'll see your info, if it's on there, and hopefully offer you a ride. I think one of the main reasons that people don't use the rideboard more is maybe they don't think about how it *can* work, they just see that nobody already listed lives by them and assume that this means nobody who lives by them ever uses it. People *do* look at it, even if they aren't listed.
Rozzlyn Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Who wants to bum me a ride to Mephisto's on Wednesday? I have junk for Scary Guy and was at home with a sore throat today. My contact info is on the rideboard.
