Okay, my grandma's dog Fancy, a Chiwawa (I CANT SPELL IT), has gotten so big and fat that you literally have to have two people to carry her. Besides excercise, what kind of things can we do to get her weight down. I mean, this dog wight 68 pounds!!!!!

Im not sure if that will work.......The dog doesnt even waddle any more.....It drags itself and often wont move away from its food dish.

Skin the thing, fry it up in the pan.....sounds about ready for slaughter if yah ask me. I hear if you use enough hot sauce it tastes just like dark stringy beef.

Hmmm...hot sauce...there's an idea. Maybe that will get the dog to stop eating if I put it in her food. Oh shit, shes a Chiwawa, I forgot. She is Mexican!!

I would recommend food appropriate for it's age, first off (IE If it's over 6-7 years old, get active maturity dog food). Secondly, I'd recommend putting the dog on portion control. A dog of that size, if it's a pure bred, should not need more than 1 cup of dry food a day. And that regime needs to be stuck to, no matter how much the dog cries for more or anything. No treats - - Nothing but it's own food from it's own bowl and NO table scraps of any sort. (Not trying to sound like you don't know what you're talking about, but are you sure it's a chihuahua? Is it pure bred or is it crossed with something that could account for a portion of that extra size?)

My third step would be take it to the vet for a complete checkup. There could be a medical condition that's causing him/her to be so large as well as the added weight having taken its toll on the animal's heart.

Thanks. I'll tell my grandma that. Personally, I dont know how she feeds the dog or anything, but I am worried about the dog's health. She'll be 7 years old in February, and yes, its a pure bread Chihuahua. I actually never thought of taking her to the vet.

My ex-mother-in-law is a dog groomer as well as a previous vet's assistant. One of her grooming clients had a MASSIVELY huge toy poodle (which, properly purebred, should only weight 9-13 pounds, at best). The dog was soooo huge that she couldn't sit down on her butt; she had to flop down on her side.

She asked her clients how often were they feeding the dog. The clients replied "Only once a day!" "Does she get exercise every day?" "Oh yes, she gets two walks a day and then let out in the yard for potty the rest of the time." "How MUCH are you feeding her?" . . . . . .

Turns out they were giving her a gallon ice cream bucket of food a day and since she ate every morsel every day, they thought it was okay and that she needed that much food even though she wasn't a lactating mother or anything.

my dogs both get one scoop of dried dog food twice a day and plenty of water.

thier walked of the leash in long grass, which in the past has resulten in vets bills. but thier happy

OMG!!!!! Poor thang!!!! Shit, my poodle Oreo, got two cans of Mighty Dog a day plus a bowl of dry food that she barely touched. Sometimes shed get table scraps. Id walk her for an hour or more a day everyday, unless it was too cold or rainy, in which shed get to go for one block. I dont know if my Grandma walks Fancy, either. I just know shes fat.
