Head Wreck Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 i'm glad i bought this musical influences: David Bowie, Kate Bush, PJ Harvey this as a freind described in work today "an album of two halves" allthough i like all the tracks on here, they suit 2 differant moods, from the fevered "incubator" a song about an aversion to pregnancy to her duet with David Bowie (Kristeen herself apeared as vocals and piano on David Bowies Album Heathen) her style changes from song to song, from the first track "We Want More!?" which her singing style, in not variations, pauses rests and breathing is very bowieesqe. this song is very piano driven. the second song is more electronic, with a warbling bass guitar in the backdrop. her style on this is more like some of the other stuff i have heared of her in the past. some reason this song reminds me of something i may have heared or imagined a long time back, very vocal driven song, the chorus seems to be more in content in the amount of instrements, and vocal layers (all kristeen young) "Bite Down" very very PJ harvey-esque in composition. one of my favourate tracks. We Are the world (why KY). this is m ore like her style on the first album Miss Young and her all boy band, but seems an advancement, the chorus seems jazzed up from the verses, which rely more on kristeens vocal style. "rock Radio", this is written, and sounds like a hip hop record, yet its lyrics viscously attack the modern rock scene as a "boys only club" having being tamed by the trappings of fame and managment from an independant form, into something which it was originaly going against (and i do feel she's right, back when i was a kid, i was the odd one who listened to that uncool genre called metal, nowerdays i cant call in a music store by some huge cardboard cutout of some corporate image driven vanilla flavoured screamyshouty metal band that sounds identical to the others) halfway this album takes a quiet moment in the form of "Valuable", a more traditional evening piano peace, almost bowiesque timing in her vocals once again, but the usual kate bush shrill and vocal range (my pearents do think i'm listening to kate bush right now listening to this while i write this) "Incubator". more of a "cutsey maddned" vocal style on this, a song about... well best put in the second verse and subsiquent bridge; There are men who will hunt meHypnotize me with love So I will show less resistance To their life-stealing baby gun. Sometimes it’s depressing and It gets me down to know my Reason for being is to be an Oven one day. one hell of a voice on this woman. not a bad pianist either. may not be to everyones tatse. i am very pleased with this purchase you know how to contact me as regards a few sample MP3's i made up
