Draco1958 Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 Not sure where to put this but I will be here and there for the next few days. My mom was taken to the hospital Halloween night with a problem with her leg. Turns out the blood flow is weak at best. This is causing major with her foot to the point that I had to sign surgery permission papers for them to amputate her foot and part of her leg. Won't know how far up the leg until they start the surgery. Then they are going to put a filter in to catch any remaining blood clots. Now I have been down as of late, alot of things going on. And I have been accused of faking my problems. So to those who accused me of making up this drama, I will be more than happy to show you a statement from the hospital. Maybe then you will realize that others do have problems and get depressed. Only reason I am saying anything about this is so those who are my friends will understand my mood swings that have started. You can find me on yahoo, info is in my profile. And to those who think I am faking this, you know where you can shove it. I am tired of basically being told, you don't have problems, you're just faking it to get attention. Well screw you for that.
Fierce Critter Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 I hope things get better for you and yours, Draco. Hang in there.
The Void Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 Sorry that you and your mother are going through this. Hopefully you can lean on friends who will help you get through this.
Draco1958 Posted November 1, 2005 Author Posted November 1, 2005 Just got a call from the anestes...ummm...the person who puts you under. She's worried about my mom's heart not handling things. Trying to bring in a heart Dr. but other Dr. feels this is an emergency and may not wait...Prognosis, she may not make it thru the surgery and I will have to make the choice of whether or not to pull life support. This isn't happenning yet but is a possible outcome from the surgery. Life freakin sucks.........................
unchaste Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 That's gotta be really tough, Draco. You have to think about what would be best for her, remember that. It's hard to let go of loved ones, especially someone as close as a parent. Hang in there.
Brenda Starrr Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 I'll say a prayer for you. And keep my fingers crossed. I'm sorry that your family is dealing with this.
Shade Everdark Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 I hope that things get better for your mum, Draco, that the surgery goes well. Tell her you love her when she wakes up from the surgery.

Draco1958 Posted November 3, 2005 Author Posted November 3, 2005 UPDATE: My Mom made it thru surgery ok. She was still groggy this afternoon so I will get to talk to her more tomorrow. They did the amputation just above the ankle. Will find out more info from the Dr. tomorrow about what to expect.
bean Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 I'm glad your mum made it through okay. I will continue sending you positive thoughts.
Draco1958 Posted November 4, 2005 Author Posted November 4, 2005 They moved my Mom out of ICU yesterday so things are looking better.
Goth Brooks Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 My mom was moved to Boston General, I'm told her chances are 70/30 right now. I hate being so over drawn from my bank that I can't be there. If something goes wrong, I don't know what I'll do.
Draco1958 Posted November 8, 2005 Author Posted November 8, 2005 So far things have gone OK. Wednesday morning, my Mom goes back into surgery to close the first surgery. This time they will take part of her leg either below or above the knee and close it up. The infection has cleared which means it was coming from the foot only and not further up the leg. Only thing left to worry about is the blood clots and whether she can handle another surgery.
Draco1958 Posted December 26, 2005 Author Posted December 26, 2005 Time for an update. They did the second amputation on Nov 9th at the knee once they were sure the infection was gone. However she no longer can feed herself so it looks like her brain didn't handle things so well. The nurse at the home was having trouble feeding her. She wouldn't swallow her food. Trying to talk to her was like talking to a child with a short attention span and poor comprehension. She's retaining fluid again due to her heart not being able to keep the blood flowing properly. on Dec 16th she was taken back to the hospital with what appears to have been a minor heart attack. She had a rapid heartbeat, low blood pressure and respitory distress. She is stable but they had to insert a feeding tube because she won't eat. It's looking more and more like it's just a matter of time. And with some other problems on a gift project for my niece and limited money for gifts, Xmas really sucked this year.
