Fierce Critter Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Jon and I will be hitting up the Barnes & Noble on Washtenaw tomorrow (Saturday the 12th). Are there any good thrift shops in that general area we should check out? Salvation Army or Value World, etc? Anyplace else? Thanks!
Fierce Critter Posted November 11, 2005 Author Posted November 11, 2005 I found the following on Switchboard. If you have been to any of these and they aren't worth going to, please let me know: Ann Arbor Thrift Shop 3530 Washtenaw Ave Ann Arbor, MI 48104-5249 Thrift Shop the 14 S Washington St Ypsilanti, MI 48197-5426 Ann Arbor Pto Thrift Shop 1621 S State St Ann Arbor, MI 48104-4302 Value World 1401 W Michigan Ave (or 1410) Ypsilanti, MI 48197-5128 Value World 345 N Maple Rd Ann Arbor, MI 48103-2824
Brenda Starrr Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Are you answering your own questions, FC??
holliwood66 Posted November 12, 2005 Posted November 12, 2005 PTO Thrift is a really good one. Also, Mother Fletcher's in Ypsilant is less pricy than the Ferndale one *or RO..can't remember exactly*
Fierce Critter Posted November 12, 2005 Author Posted November 12, 2005 Are you answering your own questions, FC?? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> :grin I'm big on preparation, and needed to do some mapping today. So I did some research myself. Holliwood - thanks. I also found 2 Salvation Army stores within a 6 mile radius of Barnes & Noble. So I'm all set. Hope my luck continues. I picked up 4 more skirts, a shirt, and a pair of boxers in the past 2 days. I'm hoping to find more variety in tops, as I'd like to branch away from the t-shirts I wear so much. Harder to find good plus-sizes in tops, though.
Ginevra Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 The Value World on Michigan Avenue is right around the corner from me. It can be okay-ish. There's no dressing rooms, no real furniture but sometimes you can find a decent buy here and there. I go there when I need work clothes. I like the Salvation Army in Troy a lot better.
saechalyn Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Haha, thanks FC I live in A2 and work about 2 minutes from that Barnes & Noble, and I've never been to any of those places...I'll have to check em out, thanks for doing the research :grin
Shade Everdark Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 The other Mother Fletcher's is in Ferndale, right on 9 Mile, and while they are, as Holliwood says, a bit pricey, they do have some neato-keen stuff. I picked up a nifty smoking jacket from there about a year ago.
Fierce Critter Posted November 14, 2005 Author Posted November 14, 2005 Note: Ann Arbor Thrift Shop at 3530 Washtenaw Ave is closed. Thrift Shop the - 14 S Washington St in Ypsilanti is very tiny and closes early - call for hours before going. Ann Arbor Pto Thrift Shop - 1621 S State St - Has moved. They're in the same general area, but call them for new address. Value World 1401 W Michigan Ave (or 1410) - Ypsi - non-existent. We drove that entire area twice and couldn't find it. Ginevra - you say you go to that one. What were we missing? Value World - 345 N Maple Rd A2 - decent, typical Value world. Jon got a few Abercrombies, including a great jacket. I also found addresses for 2 salvation armies. The one that used to be on Arbana is now where the PTO USED to be - by the fruit market/train tracks. It's fantastic. Very large, very well sorted. The one on Packard was a business/family office, not a store. I didn't get a thing. I think the type of clothes I like to pick up are eaten up fast by the students in the area. I do better in the 'burbs closer to Detroit. Froyn - I live downriver, and shop at the Salvation Army in Garden city often. We can't stand that Value Thrift - they're overpriced, and cranky. We were just making a trip out to A2 so figured we'd hit up thrift stores while we were in the area. I hit up all the thrift stores from Southgate to Livonia often.
Ginevra Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 FC, it's right on the corner of Michigan Avenue and a dead end street. There used to be a casket store right across the dead end street from it but it just recently closed. I don't really remember there being a sign now that I think about it, but I could be wrong. I looked at Rand McNally online and plugged in the 1401 address and that's correct. If you're still not sure, let me know when you guys are going to be in the area again and I'll be happy to show you specifically where it is if I'm off work that day. The one by the railroad tracks in A2 is fairly new. They used to be on Ecourse by the McD's but closed down about a year ago. By the tracks is the new location. That used to be a bookstore that sold lower than original price new books. (Did that last sentence make sense? )
SpidersMoment Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 PTO is just down the street from where they used to be. Even though, where they used to be is now Salvation Army. When i found that out. Yeah, i was Quite Pleased.
