Clubs and personal taste in general

I wanted to put this as a stand alone topic, but if the "powers that be" think it should be filed under the "a note about deisel" thread, let me know and i will move it. I don't want to focus on any one club, or any one form of entertainment, or any one subject really. I want to comment on something way more general than that. But my need to say something was brought on by the recent discussion about various clubs. Thus why I put my comment in this forum.

Scarey Guy, I will use a quote from you, but I am by no means singling you out in particular. You just had a well phrased sentence that summed something up that I want to comment on. And I am not attacking you. I just feel the need to say something about this whole concept in general. Several people have been saying basically the same thing as you did below. You just get the honor of being quoted instead of them. Blame the good phraseology of your sentence. :)

Scarey Guy said:

"I just want better for the people who go there and can't see why when better places exist "

I'm sure you and others do feel this way sincerely, and have good intentions. And I'm sure that the reason people say this is because they have a set of values and naturally want what they see as better along the scale, within those set of values. Sometimes it is hard for people to realize that everyone values different things in life. And when wanting "better" stuff for others, which is a nice thing, one has to take into account that what one values as "better" could rank as "worse" or "irrelevant" on someone else's set of values. Not everyone values the same things in life.

If people "want better" for people, the best way to do that is to let them do what they want, as long as it isn't harming anyone else, and to respect their decisions. Everyone's life and tastes are different.

It's usually more pleasant for everyone when people try to make their own life better, and trust that others will try to do the same for themselves. Or if one is going to dole out help, find out what exactly the person *wants* as help, and if they want it at all. Many times people have gotten it in their heads to "help" me with things I didn't want or need help in. And what they considered "help" was actually harmful to me, irrelevant to me, or outright offensive to me.

I'm sure Scarey Guy and Detroit Requiem and whoever else has been singing the praises of various clubs mean well. The only reason I wrote this message is to address the concept of people not understanding how come others "refuse to see what is good for them". It is because, for those of us who can't see what's "good" for us, it *isn't good*.

Thanks for listening to my attempt at explanation,

I know CC stinks and sucks but it is still my favoret goth club because quite honestly it is the only true goth club in town to me. Too many 'regular' people at the other places for me.

I went to a swinger dance and honestly I get more play at CC.

Personaly, i love the necto on monday nights. I dont like mephisto's becuase its a lounge, and i like to dance. As far as CC goes, i think its dirty, they usually play to slow of music, and the people arent very nice, so i only go there as a last resort. And for deisel, i havent been and am really looking forward to see what its like once i can get a chance to go. No offence to the others who liked the clubs I mentioned that i didnt like.

I'll always think of Saturday night as CityClub night because of DGN night being Saturday, and nothing will ever replace that. I'll take breaks now and then likely, but if I'm going out Saturday night on the rare occasions I am free for fun, I'll probably be heading there.

Especially for Friday and occasional Saturdays though, I wouldn't mind checking out other places.

I've got nothing against other clubs- and I'm only "loyal" to city club because of the people. It's dirty and it's got a crappy sound system, but it's the only place I can show up on any given Friday or Saturday by myself and be guaranteed people I know to talk to.

The only problem is, most of us work days and going out on a Monday night is not an option.

A2 is too far for me. I have narcalepsy and fall asleep while driving. I can get home from CC in 20 min.

I don't like going to clubs like Necto that are all preppy rap college students on regular nights.

I feel like a freak on display.

Ok here is why.

Remember Star bar? I went there on a 'goth/fetish' night.

Talked to some regular guys.

You know what they said? They go on goth/fetish nights to meet sluts.

If that is what people think of me for being goth and fetish then I don't want to party with them.

im not sure where you have been, but most guys go to bars to meet sluts... (i said most, not all).... I thought this was common knowledge

the formula works like this: go to bar, buy 1 or more beers (or other drinks), look for sluts. Repeat until guy gets lucky.

I love CC, IN SPITE of it's gross tendancies. There is just this deeply rooted "Detroit" charm to it. I moved here because i'm in love with this dirty little city and that club has been kind of the symbol of the scene in my mind for my whole clubgoing life. I like other clubs and go there sometimes, I just really feel most comfortable at CC for some reason!

That said, I am most impressed with Diesel and plan to go there more often as well!

i actually dont really like clubs as a whole i dont really dance and i cant stand most of the music they play for me i really only go to see the people that are there because its my only real chance to see them so if one club isnt going to have as many of my friends there as another then im not going to that club

I agree. I hate going to clubs that are regular upbeat preppy dance clubs all the time but have a once a week "Goth Night". It's like they're jumping on the goth bandwagon to try to drum up more business. I don't care how cool the goth night is, it just feels tainted by the atmospheric resonance from the other nights. Just as bad too is a club that has a different theme for every night of the week with goth being one of them. It's like the club doesn't have it's own identity and is reaching out desperately for whoever it can get. That's one reason I like going to CC. They're exclusively goth, and have been that way for as long as I've been going there (8+ years).

THANK YOU!! This is exactly why I will continue to go to CC.

Yeah, like I said though I am sure higgins is paying someone off. I'm mostly concerned for your health as that place really should be condemned.

But whatever, I work for the competition yeah, so everything I say is just business, right?

Do you know why people dance at City Club? It's not because of the music or the huge floor. It's because if anyone remains still for too long, they might get Herpes or some other disease just by standing there. Plus it helps keep you from sticking to the floor.

LOL. I'll have to test this theory out when I'm there on Sat. ;-)

Actually you do stick to the floor if you stand still too long! :blink

Last time I went there I sat down on that thing they call a bench. You know, it goes around the walls. I wore a short skirt no panties but a gstring.

My ass stuck to stale beer! Yuk!

But! (no pun intended! Ha!)

My G/F and my man both find people we can dance and make out with.

Of both sexes......so I keep going.

It is more bi freindly than any other club without being over the top gay.

I like men in skirts that are leather or PVC or something.....not drag queens.

Goth guys rule.

Now that I'm old, I like clubs where I can sit down when I want to- Necto.

I have only been there, so I have no other references for MI, which kinda counts me out of this to some degree.

However, I've frequented gay clubs since I was old enough to go to a club. I like Necto's Pride Night, so I tend to go and my friends are going so why the hell not?

hehe

I do need to check out CC on some future visit to MI.
