Onyx Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 My machine still works, sort of, but it has lost the ability to have the time set and the biggest thing I hate is how it picks up on the fourth ring and there is no way to set it for a longer time. Four rings are not enough time for me. I hate it when people hang up before I get there, plus it actually sounds to them as if it's about 7 rings on their end. Can anyone recommend an answering machine they have that will allow the phone to be set to ring more than 4 rings, is digital (no tapes) and will give the message time?
JaneDead Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 i don't know i have not had an answering machine in forever. just voicemail. would you consider just getting voicemail instead?
Onyx Posted December 10, 2005 Author Posted December 10, 2005 i don't know i have not had an answering machine in forever. just voicemail. would you consider just getting voicemail instead? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have it and I hate that too. I can't screen calls with it and it doesn't tell me if I have a message. I asked MCI to remove it and apparently they can't figure out how to take it off my line. It picks up when my phone is busy and I never remember to check it. My search continues ...
Scary Guy Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 You can always look for a stand alone answering machine I guess. But voicemail has pretty much made them obsolete. As far as screening calls thats what caller ID is for. The house phone here is VOIP now with voice mail. We don't even use the answering machine anymore and the nice thing is being able to check it from anywhere.
Homicidalheathen Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 I had this problem. In order to give myself more time to answer I just put a really long stupid message on there, with music and everything...... I had time to get to the phone but everyone got tired of the song and my being silly in the same way.......over and over.......every time they called.....so they stopped calling me. Hey, maybe I should do that again?
