Fierce Critter Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 My life does NOT revolve around TV. I like to watch it to dumb-down my brain for a while, get some peace from the overdrive on which my brain is ordinarily running on. That said, there are a few shows I watch religiously. Usually I tape them so I can control my own schedule, I just refuse to be stuck in front of the tube at a given time of day. A couple of these shows include re-runs of er currently running on broadcast TV (season 7 I believe), and Survivor (I am a reality-show junkie). The Survivor finale was scheduled for 8:00 p.m. last night. And guess what? Pre-empted by either football or basketball, I forget which. So the tape I have set ends up catching just the first hour or so. Then, I miss everything else - all the payoff scenes. And then, er is scheduled for 1:30 a.m. last night. And there's a basketball game on earlier in the night. And it goes on, and on, and on, and on. Basketball was still on by the time I shut the lights off at 4:00 a.m. WTF?!?!?! I mean, come on. Simple pleasures denied, you know? I can recall Thanksgiving get-togethers being ridiculous at a particular uncle's home. If the rotation fell on his household, we could be sure not to have the pleasure of his or my male cousin's company at the gathering. Instead, they'd be plastered to the TV watching the game and being obnoxious. I find it interesting that "sports" as a topic falls nowhere on this board. I'm just sayin'.
Homicidalheathen Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 Televised sports suck because now they have a delay (or so I hear) so that we can no longer get a peek at Janet Jacksons boobies. Heh.
JaneDead Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 yeah i was pissed last night too! the show i watch was not on due to sports. grr. if i had KNOWN i would have been ok with that, but i was all set on watching it!
Scary Guy Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 I hate all sports already, cause they screw up traffic, the people that play in them make WAY too much (and don't deserve it) and varrious other reasons as well (riots, terrorist targets, etc...)

DarkVampire Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 I'm a football fan, NFL and college. Don't fuck with my remote when the games are on. It's one of those rare times when I actually turn the station, I usually have it on the History Channel most of the time.
Lilith Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 You have no idea how happy i am that i found a guy who does not watch sports on TV. He love going to see a game, heading out tot he bar for Super Bowl etc.. but will not sit at home and watch them. He might stop on the X games or something similar if he runs across it, but nothing else really. I got sooooo Lucky
Homicidalheathen Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Me too. He likes the Nascar shit......I do too. I like wrestling....he puts up with me. But we would both rather be in the basement writing songs. I love my music geek.
HipsterDufus Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Sarah basically gets control of the remote in our house. I generally dislike TV, preferring to read or play an RPG on my computer. I'm more of a computer geek than anything else. There are a few exceptions that I have to watch like "Family Guy", "Simpsons", or "Arrested Development." Anything drama or sports-related is really lame to me. I grew up with my dad who would watch every single football game available any time they were on. It drove me nuts. Odd because I played football freshman and sophomore years in high school. That was more to get with the ladies, though. =)
Homicidalheathen Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 I like to play football too. No one suspects me when I come up to tackle them........wuhaha! I am tiny and female. But watching it is boring.
Msterbeau Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 I'll play/participate in almost any sport, if there are friends/fun involved. I despise most college/professional sports. Like other celebrities, the whole circus that revolves around these things... all the ridiculous time and energy spent obsessing over them, the amount of money the suck up.... blech!

Wish I knew how to ice skate. Hockey seems like it'd be fun... :grin
Lilith Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 HipsterDufus, Ahhh okay, you just pointed out one sport We as a Family might sit and sort of watch or at least follow the scores, but it is only when The Red Wings are up and fiery, and that is only because we like to drive Gratiot after they win the Cup. It freakign Rawks HArd in that 79 plymouth trail duster... ridding around topless :woot: The truck that is!

Watched it religiously when we first moved down to NC, 'cause that's when they kicked the Hurricane's BIG TIME and we were so happy. We wouldn't put a Red Wings logo on our truck, though, out of fear of vandalism. I had fun driving Telegraph when they won those two times in the 90's, too.

When the player right in front of you gets slammed into the glass... Good times. Of course, it's impossible to get seats like that at a Red Wings game. On that note, I personally enjoy going to see minor league games better than pro games. Here's why: 1) They're cheaper 2) You get better seats 3) The players actually play because they enjoy playing the game (and because they want to move up), not because they're getting paid craploads. 4) Cheaper beer I don't see a ton of sports live, but if I do, I'd much rather it be minor leaguers (hockey or baseball)
Rayne Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Agreed. Wish I knew how to ice skate. Hockey seems like it'd be fun... :grin <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It is. :grin
Rayne Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Only sports I can watch: Hockey. Why? It's friggin' awesome, that's why. NASCAR. Go fast, turn left. Buncha guys running around a track chasing each other ... and the cars ... *drools* ... *snaps fingers* Damn! and I passed up the chance to go to NASCAR tech school. ... and that is all.
saechalyn Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Sports bore me. Fortunately I don’t have any shows I care about so it doesn’t matter to me. The only thing that drives me nuts is when I get stuck in post-football traffic here in A2. Happens way more often than it should, because I always forget.
Homicidalheathen Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 I only watch hockey for the brawls but they don't do it so much now. I want to see blooood.
Shade Everdark Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Unsurprisingly, I don't watch much in the way of sports. If ESPN showed kendo more often, I'd be watching that. I must also confess (a not entirely surprising) fondness for sumo wrestling. And once in a great, great while, I'll watch a Euro soccer match.
Guest Megalicious Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 I LOVE SPORTS!!!! Im sorry they didnt show your show because of it fierce ... I know how it is. YOU MUST KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!! But I wouldn't give it up or some DEETTROOITT Basketballl lol ... but then again I love the Piston and you dont =) Yah the postgame shit gets kinda old .. the play of the game over and over ... I mean I can only watch it so many times lol ...
Scary Guy Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 OK, I lied, I like curling I also want to see jousting and sword fighting not just at renfair.
Msterbeau Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 Agreed. Wish I knew how to ice skate. Hockey seems like it'd be fun... :grin Hockey I can almost tolerate, seeing as I played both in my youth and later as an adult. Must be the Canadian genes in me.
