Electronics of The Past

:devil Yeah I remember the days of Beta, Large Laser disk players and Atari. It would be cool to find some of these things laying around and find out if they still work at all. Our neighbors used to have a Beta system and I thought it was better than VHS. Why laser disk player vanished awhile ago is still somewhat a mystery. Then again VHS players are still sold at some stores.

There's a great magazine called "Make" that is a bible for the DIY crowd. They seem to take great pleasure in digging up just the kind of stuff your talking about and repurposing it... Check it out if you see it on the newstand.

I still have a Beta player in my basement. Beta tapes too.

we had a beta. i hated it as a kid cuz there was the smallest section of beta at the video store and then the rest was all vhs so we didn't have much of a choice.

Yeah betamax was definately a better format, but there was more porn on VHS, so unfortunately it won out. I had a Betamax, still have an Atari 2600, some older computers, LINK "dummy" terminal, MasPar 2204 supercomputer from 1992 (case, I ripped out the guts), some old army HAM radios, an EICO 460 oscilloscope, I just got a Gemini PMX 2001 mixer (pretty old), a Robie Sr. robot from Radio Shack, a Bell & Howell super 8 projector, a Vandegraff generator made by the American Electrostatic Company.

Thats all crap I could see just looking around my room too, in sight.

I have a old commador computer and it has games that still work. Some guy actually offered me money for it! Heh, I might just give it to him to get it out of the way...but $ is good.

I still have my Atari 2600 and games. Still plays.

Got an old Jerrold cable converter box from 1988 sitting here from a box of trash we picked up to paw through. Remember when they had individual buttons for each channel on top instead of 2 buttons to go forward and backwards through them?

I remember my dad's first remote-control TV. The remote only had 2 clicker-type buttons that just changed the channels up or down. To this day, my mother still calls a remote a "clicker".

Hm. Got a rotary phone sitting here too, also from the trash (and potential $ on eBay).

OMG - dot matrix printers. Shudder.

IBM Selectric typewriters. I literally feel sick around one of those. I worked for an attorney who was a computer phobe, and I had to type legal briefs on it. Sometimes a hundred pages or more. Now you know why I can type so damned much so quick. :wink

I learned computing on GiGi computers & Mac II's.

My mom's 25 year old car got broken into and they stole the 8 track. Probably had no clue what it was...dumbasses.

I have a VHS-C video camera, still play my sega genesis now and then, I have an old 16mm movie camera I want to sell. I have a couple of Kodak 110 cameras. A friend has an Atari 2600, 5200 and 7800 game systems and they all work.

I wish I had an old Nintendo system again. I'd love to play Mario.

Wait a damned second. I think my Nintendo system is at my dad's. I gotta go get it. He never liked it - preferred his Intellivision - which he STILL has, and still has probably 50 games.

All I can see when I look at it is a damned good eBay sale.

you must however own the game to legally have the rom

you will also need to find emulators to play those.
