Fierce Critter Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 My mom called last night to tell me my dad's in the hospital due to his ulcer, which appears to be bleeding right now. He's had a problem with this for many years. He tends to ignore the signs until he ends up hemhorraging. He went to the doctor during the day yesterday and the doctor told him to go to the hospital. He did, and they kept him overnight. They're swamped, and didn't get to do much with him last night. They're going to do a colonoscopy & the one where they snake a tube down your throat and go into your stomache... Gastroscopy maybe??? I'm not all going crazy about this 'cause at least it's not his heart (I was a basket case when I got THAT call years ago...). But I know it's weighing on him right now that we're all supposed to get together for the holiday tomorrow. I hope he's not letting that bother him. I think I'll call the sister who is hosting this and see if it's possible to have a Plan B in place to do the celebration on Sunday instead. Just needed to share. Guess it's bothering me a little more than I thought.
Fierce Critter Posted December 23, 2005 Author Posted December 23, 2005 Thanks =) Just heard from my sister. His duodenal ulcer is back. They're putting him back on meds (never knew he was off them), and holding him one more night to do one more test. He'll be out in the morning, in plenty of time for him to get home, spruce up, and get to my sister in Livonia for dinner at 3:00. I knew it wasn't a huge deal. But still, the man is 79 years old and it IS the day before Christmas Eve.

Ginevra Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 Even though it was unexpected, it sounds like it's under control and things are progressing well. You and yours are in my thoughts.
Onyx Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 Maybe this will wake him up and make him take care of himself a little better. So glad to hear he is getting help. It can be very serious as I'm sure you all know, so he's lucky they got him in, but fortunately very controllable as long as he will take his meds. My mom is the same way, not doing what she should for her health. I can't fault her too much though, it's something I struggle with myself, though I'm doing better lately at taking better care of me. (((hugs)))
Homicidalheathen Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 I had a bleeding ulcer and pollups. I had tubes stuck up and down me. He will be ok. After they remove the bad spots he needs to really watch his diet. We are praying for him.
Brenda Starrr Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 My thoughts are with you and your family, FC.
Fierce Critter Posted December 26, 2005 Author Posted December 26, 2005 Dad attended the holiday gathering as planned, if somewhat tired. He took a nap right there on the couch next to us at one point. But then we started passing around the gifts, and I woke him up like it was Christmas morning and Santa was there with presents for little Gene. :laughing He turned on his electric tie with the blinking snowflakes and we all had a good time. Jon and I went over my parents today with Oakley and Ray - their favorite cat - and visited, too. Thankfully he got a really good night's sleep last night. Oh and he really enjoyed the "WOW!" pajamas I made for him. =) Thanks all for the thoughts and prayers.
Homicidalheathen Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 Oh I so would not mind a posted pic of said blinking tie. Heh.
Rivers the Cleric Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 i've had them for years... when i get under a lot of stress for a long time i start vomiting blood.. never been to a doctor about them... think i will, now.
Draco1958 Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 My prayers for you and your family FC. If you want to talk, you have me on Yahoo.
Homicidalheathen Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 It amazed my how people wait to get to a doctor. I had to take that medication for 6 months......no fried foods pop or alcohol....or drugs!! Or allot of sweets.....and it did heal. And it never came back. I do feel pain once in awhile (stupid, cause it is usually from booze) and I have to be good for a couple months. Why you so stressed at your age?
