Cityclub/goth/industrial stories, myths & Legends

So I was thinking, there have to be some good stories out there from the scene... true or not as long as they are good...

Anyone know any good stories about the "scene" from the early to mid 1990s (like say 1992-1997....

Things that happened, things you heard happened, things that happened to you, things that happened to someone you liked (or didnt like)

PS.... I was looking for legends/stories, not concert reviews unless somthing spectactular happened at the concert like the cops came because someone was really messed up and started autofelating themself....

I was part of the production team that was putting on the Apop show at CC a few years back. After the show we were tearing everything apart when we realized that no one knew where the mixer was. We frantically looked everywhere and had exausted every last hope of finding it when magically it showed up in an elevator with a very unhappy engineer who had been stuck there for about an hour.

Those were good times.

People just tell me not to go....wierd energies and what not. I still go.

You know, this one time, at City Club ... it was great.

A bunch of my friends and I were all on LSD one night in the early 90's. Our friend was spinning that night at Ascension UK. We went up there and caused quite a ruckus. After playing the usual Laibachs and Joy Divisons, at our request (read: nagging) our friend played Slayer - War Ensemble. This was music that was completely inappropriate for that place...which is exactly why we asked him to play it. He (and the rest of us) thought it was funny. The owners did not and promptly told him he was done.

Good times.

anyone remember the guys falling out of the ceiling on the dance floor?

I can think of some....dunno about the authenticity of a lot of these as they've been passed around for so long....

***I remember the first Apoptygma Berzerk show, athte Lab in 99... where things started late...the reason I had heard was because Stephen was busy looking for some coke and had ended up getting sent to the Marilyn Manson show to go get it. Supposedly, he was going to go ask Manson himself and was able to get through several rounds of security backstage by using the backstage pass for his own concert until he got discovered and turned away.

This was also the same show that they were the 'opening band' for Spahn Ranch and

got called out for an encore. Not being prepared for this (being that they were an opening act) they had to reset the DAT and do the first couple of songs over again. Then when Spahn Ranch came on as the headlining act, everybody left.

***The neo-nazis coming into City '95 or '96 and passing out pamphlets to people that said stuff like "kill all Jews", "kill all fags", etc. Head of security hearing about this (don't remember if it was Ron or Dennis) and having them all forcibly ejected from the bar, but not before taking the leader of the group, slamming his face against the wall across from the bar and making him kiss Jesus (there used to be a painting of the Last Supper across from the bar on the wall).

***A couple of years ago, Ritchie Hawtin playing City Club during Sunday of DEMF weekend and insisiting on using his own sound/lighting gear...after the show the mixer and strobe light 'disappeared' with the rest of his gear...this being why the dance-floor having the strings of Xmas lights across the ceiling instead of our old strobe-light. The management finding this out the next Friday night when getting the club ready for opening and Ron had to run out to a Radio Shack to get a basic mixer replacement.

***People catching scabies from the old CC couches

***Higgen's train set

These two are both completely true. We were producing that show as well. When Stephen asked for the coke we told him about the MM concert as a joke. He loved the idea and off they went. The show went great once they got back though even though they never found their coke.

That is one of the funniest things ever!!!!

Anyone have any good Bum stories or "my car got broken into" stories.... or I got attacked?

Anyone Remember the guy who stole the coat check tip jar and then tried to run down the stairs, but missed the slight turn at the bottome and bounced his face off the wall... thus dropping the tip jar...

I remember an underage girl 15 who overdosed on somthing got sent to the hospital. When confronted by the police about her really bad fake ID, she ratted out her "drug lord"... who happened to work at Taco Bell...

Once years ago (94 or 95 swimming pool days) while in the parking lot I got a ride in a brand new Corvette convertable from a guy who I kind of knew (only at CC)... so anyway, we were dring along about 75-80mph on woodward and he tells me that some old lady he was sleeping with (in her 50s) gave it to him, and he was going to have to leave it somewhere because he was sure her husband was going to report it stolen sometime soon... I quickly started rubbing fingerprints off of everything I touched.

I might add that the corvette flew nicely over the bumps and man hole covers. I dont think the owners husband was very happy with its condition when he got it back.

Nope... I never broken into a car at cityclub

Posted

I didnt break into one either.... the woman this guy was sleeping with gave him the car... but since she could not admit she was having an affair, im sure her husband reported it stolen.

I knew none of this when i got into it.

Me either ... not at City Club. :innocent

My friend who shall remain nameless.....knows the owner somewhat. He said the guy is strange and well, someone was hurt there once and he did not pay any thing out like a slum lord.

(This is all hear-say)

Then three other people told me a story about how some young cute buck was 86ed and gave the owner head to get back in (I don't like the place THAT much!) and he went back on the 'deal'.

Some more, all CC -

***A guy I know that used to go there a couple of years ago got extremely trashed and when he was leaving the bar stopped by coat-check to get his coat. Ended up tipping the coat-check grrl by vomitting all over her. He was forcibly removed from the bar at that point and banned for several weeks.

***The now-infamous "girl got stabbed by the DJ booth with the request list pen and died" prank. The real funny thing about that was the Necto the following week had beefed-up security and cops on stand-by in case the stabber showed up.

***Over a 3 month period of time watching the men's bathroom start to disappear....first it was the doors to the stalls....then the stalls themselves....followed shorty by the toilets.

Probably the most disgusting thing I've ever seen was walking into the men's room at 3.30am and seeing the 2 urinals, sink, and 2 pipes sticking out of the floor with bio-hazardous effluvia around everything. Ended up taking another break from going to there till I received confirmation that there were toilets in the men's room again.

Oh my gawd! I remember that!! I was there that night! Apparently, some drunk arse climbed up this opening in the wall, and fell through to the dance floor. I wasn't on the dance floor when it happened, but some friends came running up to me flailing all about, and one even claimed that in the fall the guy had bit off the tip of his tongue. Ew!

I do remember the string of naked girls at City Club. First, there was a girl named Reagan. She was there when I started going in 95-96. Eventually, she married and had babies and started wearing clothes. Then there was a girl named Amy, then a Heather...but it's been a very long time since I went there regularly, so I don't know who's on Naked Girl rotation now. It's winter, so I would imagine there wouldn't be a ton of takers.

Does anyone remember the Zone? It was a coffee house in Dearborn on Michigan Avenue. Alot of CCers went there. Maybe for the coffee. More likely for the drugs that the owner sold.

Good times.

I remember that, too! It was called IO, or EO, or something like that, wasn't it? It certainly was no Zone, but it was nice. The owner's name was Carl, if memory serves. Nice cat. I remember going to the Zone on the occasional poetry night (and I'm really sorry to all of the poetry lovers, but it's just not my bag), and there is one poem that I still remember to this day, it goes like this:

You broke my heart, you bitch.

I hate you, you bitch.

Bitch!

That was my favorite.

And I remember when City Club was even shittier than it is now! They had these couches, they were black and white, and disgusting. I mean, they had decades of fucking and puking, and naked asses on them and I'm pretty sure if you sat on that couch you got impregnated...with Rosemary's baby, no less. I remember when the WOMEN'S bathroom didn't have any stall doors anymore, and the sinks didn't have running water. Heh - talking like this reminds me of when my dad would say that when he was a kid he used to walk to school in three feet of snow, uphill, being chased by a bear. And now, it's my turn, I guess "When I was a goth..."

Indeed IO. :) Rumor has it, Carl got married and moved to Jamaica. Who are you? I have a quite a few friends who were active in the poetry scene back in those days. Do the names Guido or Matthew Scott Olzmann ring a bell at all? Kevin Bencik?

I used to go to the Zone too.... Remember the fight between Alex and Mario on Michigan Ave? I still have that on video tape somewhere <smile>

Anyone remember any good stories about the zone?

I don't remember a fight, but I have a vague recollection of an Alex. Did he have long brown kinda frizzy hair? It's of course possible that there was more than one Alex. I'll dig back, WAY back into the memory banks and try to remember some Zone stories.

It's funny just how MANY people served time at CC. Any mention of the place in mixed company and there are at least a few heads that turn and say "Is that place still around?" Like herpes, man - it never quite goes away.
