Canada Blames the USA for it's Gun Problem

"It's a sign that the lack of gun laws in the U.S. is allowing guns to flood across the border that are literally being used to kill people in the streets of Toronto," Miller said.

Miller said Toronto, a city of nearly three million, is still very safe compared to most American cities, but the illegal flow of weapons from the United States is causing the noticeable rise in gun violence.

"The U.S. is exporting its problem of violence to the streets of Toronto," he said.

Uh-huh...

Miller said the availability of stolen Canadian guns is another problem, and that poverty in certain Toronto neighborhoods is a root cause.

"There are neighborhoods in Toronto where young people face barriers of poverty, discrimination and don't have real hope and opportunity. The kind of programs that we once took for granted in Canada that would reach out to young people have systematically disappeared over the past decade and I think that gun violence is a symptom of a much bigger problem," Miller said.

The escalating violence prompted the prime minister to announce earlier this month that if re-elected on January 23, his government would ban handguns. With severe restrictions already in place against handgun ownership, many criticized the announcement as politics.

Oh wait... is that an admission of the real problem?

John Thompson, a security analyst with the Toronto-based Mackenzie Institute, says the number of guns smuggled from the United States is a problem, but that Canada has a gang problem -- not a gun problem -- and that Canada should stop pointing the finger at the United States.

"It's a cop out. It's an easy way of looking at one symptom rather than addressing a whole disease," Thompson said.

Now, that makes more sense.

Yeah pretty much. What a bunch of bullshit.

When the UK banned handguns, their gun crime went UP, not down.

:devil The idea of some asshole from the US going over to Canada to commit a violent crime give us an even worse reputation.

Crank... wtf are you talking about?

They are not talking about Americans commiting crimes in Canada. They are talking about Canadians smuggling guns from the USA into Canada and blaming the USA for the crimes these people are committing.

This amounts to a forgiegn power trying to affect US internal policy.

Guns don't kill people....people kill people.

Please.

Get a grip on your own people Canada.

(It's an even trade though.....they get our guns, we get their prescription drugs, pot, cheap booze, and cigarettes....Oh and fully nude bars that allow alcohol.)

Let the people have thier guns. Maybe then they won't have to smuggle them over. I want a gun....not to kill, but to protect.

They need to get a grip on their media... there are probably more people killed in detroit each month than in a year in toronto... (and most of those killed both cities are gangbangin dirtballs anyway)

I talked to a cop (friend of mine) about getting a handgun permit. He said it's more trouble than it's worth.

First off if you intended to shoot the person you go to jail because it's premeditated. How that works i have no clue because I never do anything without thinking aobut it. Second they have to be threatening your life or the life of another person with the gun actually pointing at you (by that time you're mroe than likely dead anyway). Third if they survive they can sue and even if not their family can (fucking moronic).

He said even he is not allowed to shoot anyone unless he's backed into a corner. If he has a "path of escape" he has to take it rather than shoot someone or he can lose his job and possibly go to jail himself.

yep.

i belive in education and contoll myself, not the exclusion of the rights of all, just the few waterheads and crim's

Just remember... If you get shot in Canada it make take up to 3 weeks before you can see a doctor under their "Free" Health Care system.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

that sounds like the UK health service.

i think gun control is being able to hit your target.......

Canada needs to get a grip on themselves how can we be to blame for internal issues such as these. They are delusional. I think we should just invade them and finish making them the next US territory.

How dare they blame this on us. I wonder how anyone is getting these guns in and if they are, there must be a want/need.

And if they have more guns because of us......well......that is their choice. It is happening everywhere....violence is on the rise......

Just like rats in a cage. Just too many people on the planet.

Is Canada still around? We haven't annexed them yet? And they're still yapping about how crappy Americans are? Blah.

"Martin, who says up to half of the gun crimes in Canada involve weapons brought in illegally from the United States, raised the smuggling problem when he met with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in October."

Well, there's your problem, cowboy. Canadians are TAKING our guns!! So, listen up folks, and this is very important - if a Canadian attempts to procure YOUR weapon, either through licit or illicit means, JUST SAY NO. Say "Bad Canadian! Bad Canadian! Now, be GONE!" And they'll say "Fine, I'm oot of here" and they'll get in their Audi and drive home.

I IMPLORE all of you to do this. Just say no to Canadians.

And, um, "up to half" involve weapons from the United States? So, that would mean LESS than half. So that would mean that the majority of the guns came from somewhere else, somewhere like, um, CANADA. Why focus your attention on the smaller component of the problem, not to mention the one you have less influence over (changing gun laws in the United States), and instead focus on the majority of the problem (Canadian guns)?

Silly canucks.
