I have only recently started seaching out other goths on the internet.it seems that most that i have met online are afraid of anything other than goth dating sites.i have attempted to arrange to meet or even speak on the phone with various "gothic" people,and with one exception it has turned up a dead end.the only exception is a gothic lady who directed me to this site.thank you homicidalheathen.can anyone explain to me why so many goths seem afraid of the dark?it just seems a sad commentary that as goths we should fear something new or different.

I think you will find DGN a very friendly group on the whole.

It might work out better for you to hang around a bit and let people get to know you before attempting to arrange to meet anyone though. If you live close enough to Detroit or if you can make a trip out then come out to the clubs and meet some of us there.

I find this to be pretty true of people in general not just "gothic" or alternative lifestyle people, all be it I think they have more to be skeptical of from random strangers. I myself have run into the same problem time and time again, living outside the prescribed scene in Michigan. I've had decent luck talking with people thru sites like myspace and dating sites only because I think they let you have some common ground other then "hey you like kind of different, what are you into" type conversational starters. As a rule though, and stated earlier in this thread; most "Goths" are rather unto themselves. I can’t go so far as anti-social, but more guarded with new acquaintances. I know I am slow to open up to new faces I meet even though I have tried feverously to get something together for "alternative people" in Michigan's middle and west side. That is unless there are long islands involved and Necto then I can be overly friendly. ehh.. To each their own I suppose. If you make the effort to reach out and it’s not reciprocated, move on and say hi to the next person. If it's me I'll be sure to look oddly at you, cock one eye up and slid over to hear what you have to say.

most of the hip hop kids scare me but I don't hide what I am. I get a lot of people coming up to me asking me "Are you goth?" DUH no i'm the aflac duck. *rolls eyes* Those are the people i'm scared of. Otherwise the world in general can kiss my ass about how I am. I'm me deal with it.
