Wounds Within Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 The Supreme Court has blocked the Bush administration's attempt to punish doctors who help terminally ill patients die, protecting Oregon's one of a kind assisted suicide law. The 6-3 ruling could encourage other states to maybe copy Oregon's law and could also set the stage for Congress to attempt the outlaw assisted suicide.

There were times I would have been accepting if she had made such a decision - I am glad that she did not. I am not completely against it, but I don't like it. And I am aware that it does happen already, it is just not quite so in your face.
Homicidalheathen Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 I am glad to see they are humane enough to let people die when all they do is suffer........not let doctors force you to live so they can get mo money mo money........however.......I am kinda torn. Got real sick a few years back. You have not felt pain like this. It felt like demons were slicing open my guts with hot knives. This went on for months. I wanted to die, and someone close to me offered to help. I had been to the hospital over and over...... Well I went to a different hospital........hadn't eaten in weeks......I really wanted to die and just not feel pain anymore it was just.........I cannot describe how bad it was except to say that hell is right here. Well they found a tumor blocking my guts. Took it out, I wore a bag for awhile....they fixed things up in there and I am here! It only hurts once in a while, not as bad so.........I think fighting is what I would choose. However I don't think it is for everyone. Marblez mom had no way of getting better.......unlike me.....but she lived out her 'term'. But to each his own I say. I just hope it doesn't lead to cop outs. It is easy to throw in the towel when your miserable. Sometimes we need a push.
Onyx Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 If it could be utilized correctly I am all for it, however I see a big problem with the right to die becoming the duty to die. I believe many people will now kill themselves in this way to prevent their family from being hit with huge medical bills. I see a big potential for greedy caretakers to encourage their sick to do this in order to rid themselves of the burden and have more to inherit.

I could see my mother considering that option having seen all that my father was doing/sacrificing for her.
The_Dark Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Actually, this ruling had little to do with Suicide. if you actually read it, it's about Prescription drugs. They actually made no ruling on the Suicide part. What they ruled on is if the Federal government can stop Doctors from prescribing drugs that will ultimatly be used to kill. They ruled that the government cant stop a doctor from presribing a drug for a legitimate purpose, they did not at all touch on what is or is not a legitimate purpose. They leave that up to the states, where it should be.
Hellion Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 :devil Suffering is worse than dying, Fuck the US government!!! They think they own my body because they cannot make any tax money off a dead person. The US government has been known to say that they own your body and can put you in prison for life for trying to kill yourself, becausr they lose tax money.
The_Dark Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 In reality you don't go to prison for trying to commit suicide. You go to a mental hospital, because only someone clinically depressed trys to kill themselves. As for owning you... thats only true if your in the military. If you are in the military... they do infact own you.

I'm glad, one of my really good friends mother is dying of Cancer, they are just giving her the Kemo to keep it from spreading at a rapid pace, shes going to die. Its nice to know that if she is in pain, so much pain that she would rather die in a peaceful sleep then suffer anylonger, that she has that option here, she has that choice, as much as it would hurt me to know she was dead, it wouldnt be half as hard as watching her die right in front of me. Im greatful.
