I feel so sad. I watched Picklepuss as he was born. Now, he's gone to the home of one of Sierra's friends. It just amazes me how sad I feel now that he's gone....

You'll be fine, Love. *hug*

Much hugs and sympathy.

You know I've been there. Out of Mama's 3 living babies, I was only able to bring myself to let one go. And I still miss Zoey.

That's why I'll never foster again. I'm just unable to let them go.

Strays, however, are a touch easier to let go. Moses (the kitten dropped on our doorstep in a basket) was easy to place. But those ones you see born or raise from the closed-eye state - whew, what a parting.

You'll be fine - and so will all the kits. =)

Why is it so hard? Is it because I saw the birth and pretty much held them from week one? I know so many people who just don't have the nurturing thing for animals. I didn't think I'd really get THAT attached. I was SO wrong.

I can't say for sure. Honestly.

On retrospect, Moses was only easy because he came to us at a time when we absolutely, positively could NOT take in another animal. The day he was dropped on us, we had just come home after finding Calder on the roadside, and we already had Mama & her 4 kittens. We were beyond overwhelmed.

And the people we found to take him were very, very obviously a great placement for him.

Maybe you can relate. But for us, it's so hard to give any up because we know that WE will take the very best care of an animal. We will get it necessary vet care. We feed it quality food. We keep them clean, groomed & healthy. We keep them safe from harm.

We just don't trust anyone else. I think it's that simple. We've seen too many people who claim to be animal lovers turn out to be cruel, neglectful, etc.

But look at the bright side, Brenda. You put it very, very well in the title of this thread. Just because an animal is born under your roof doesn't mean that's the place they're meant to be. Their "home" may very well be someplace else.

I think you're doing great. How many left to go?

Welllllllll....

One. We decided to not only keep Dust Bunny, but Bubbles as well. Marmalade is supposed to be going home with another of Sierra's friends in the next week.

So, the two long haired babies are staying. Thank God we got a house!
