Help please. I had to take all my metal out for surgery and I'm having trouble getting my nipple rings to go back in. They were done in June... should be reasonably well healed.

Thoughts? Anyone experienced enough to come put em back in?

I had a problem when I had to take my nose hoop out for my CAT scan and MRI when I landed myself in the hospital. It was out for the entire day. It took me two days to get it back in ... and a lot of pain. It's fine now.

I pierced my nose about a year ago, so it was definately well healed.

I can redo it for ya, I know I have that icepick around here somewhere.

I know what you mean though, I had some surgey done and had to take out everything. When I woke up 2 hours later and it was a real struggle to put my labret back in. I had to push it in with a little might. Also my tragus piercings was another battle, but everything else wint back with ease.

Some people just heal differently then others and some people can't take a piercing out for 5 minutes without it closing while others can go for weeks or even years with no problem.

Just relax and breathe. You might have to force it a bit, but don't force it too much-you should be healed enough by then. Most likely the holes shrunk, but aren't closed. That's what happened to me. My nipple ring was out for almost a week, and the hole shrunk, but didn't close.

Oh man, thats gotta really suck. Kinda reminds me back then when I use ta have my eye-brows peirced and when I got into a serious fight they got ripped out. So from then on I couldnt find the time ta re-do em again.

Helpful Hints [to be used if the holes are not totally closed yet]:

- warm water compresses/warm bath/shower for a reasonable amount of time, massaging the area; generally this will loosen things up a bit for you.

- use a water based lube, such as KY or Astroglide on the jewelry, and the holes of the piercings. do not try to dry force jewelry through a hole. lube makes this process easier and less painful, and is less traumatic for the piercing.

- go back to your piercer and see if they can taper it open for you/ go buy a taper, lube it up, and do it yourself.

Good luck.

I tried the warm water and a bit of lube... didn't help. I may have to be a bit more determined. The piercer is a friend... I dropped him a note... maybe he can bring a taper and oper er up a bit... Hmmmmm...

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

Looks like they aren't going back in... I can't find the holes... :-(

I'll let em heal and try again in the summer maybe.

I still remember the day i realised my lip was closed up. I still miss it. i cant wear piercings at work and my life is really obvious so its not like i can hide it, so i dont know if ill ever be able to re-do it. but i think about it all the time.

Good Luck getting piercings back in!!
