The Great Pop vs. Soda Controversy

Recommended Posts

I've always had a tendancy towards swinging between the two, depending on my mood and state of mind. I've also been known to be a blasphemous merger, and call it "soda-pop."

My dad's from new york, my mom is from minnesota. It's always seemed natural to go both ways.

Actually, if my memory serves me right .... mexican soda is the best ... if you go into mexico .. and get soda or "pop" , as you midwestern like to say, it's so much better ... due to the fact that high-fructose corn syrup is so much cheaper then sugar cane in the US ..... They use nothing but pure sugar cane =)=)=)=) and in mexico they call it soda .. or sosa .. which is pretty damn close lol Not to mention it come in a niffy glass bottle lol

I call it Pop. On my deployment, I was the only one in my house that called it Pop. Everyone else called it soda.

If I had to pick over calling it pop, or soda, I would just drink chocolate milk.

Heh, glad someone got that.

Also I grew up calling it pop, but now call it cola

I use both.

I used to say "pop" most of the time, but in the last year I have been calling it "soda" more often because a certian person I know can't stand it when I say pop :blink .

I did have someone from the South think I was talking about drugs once when I said pop.

I've lived in Michigan for almost 3 years now, and still feel a little weird when I say pop. I think I've said it a total of 5 or so times. I usually either say the actual name of what I'm talking about (Sprite, Coke, Rock 'n' Rye, etc.) or I'll say sodapop. In Georgia, people think northerners are totally silly for saying pop. And people here make fun of southerners for saying "Coke" for everything (which is slightly true).

Pop. When I lived in Tennessee for a few years I heard it called Coke regardless of the name brand or flavor.

Soda vs. Pop.....reminds me of a line from a book.

"Do you have any soda pop?"

"We only have fruit juice and don't call me pop."

I'm thinking I'm going to be moving to AZ, soon! Can't wait! I friggin' love it here! The heat doesn't bother me at all and the best part? NO SNOW!!! (S.N.O.W. - Shit  No One Wants)   Been staying in Bullhead City where the kids and grandkids live. Next, we're going to the wife's cousin's which is a ways North of Kingman, in the middle of nowhere, where we actually plan to move.   I really like Bullhead. It's a nice little town. Not overcrowded like Colorado Springs has become, at all. Very light traffic, reasonable prices on everything, low taxes, etc. The river offers a lot to do, with a lot of beaches and campgrounds all around it.   But yeah even though we've been over 110º-115º F just about every day,  I can handle it!  What I can't handle anymore, is snow and being cold. Just tired of it. Give me the desert over a blizzard any day!

Nope, we wasn't doing anything. I didn't want to go by myself.  I ended up doing karaoke here. It would of been a perfect day to go, though.
