I am paying waaay too much to MCI for long distance but I see I can use my broadband through them for internet phone...

I hear they have really done well with voice quality. Voice quality is very very important to me, plus I really must have very reliable home phone service. Prices are similar I see so I'm trying to decide.

MCI already does my home phone so maybe if I went with them I could keep my #, so that is one advantage, but Vonage has been at it longer.

Opinions?

I'm planning on doing this with Comcast. We'll see how it goes.

We're doing the phone thing thru WOW. No problems. And Onyx, it doesn't matter what company you use, your number will transfer with you. It did for me when I had my own phone and went from SBC to AT&T. My number came with me.

None. We don't have a land line here at the house I live in. We both have cell phones and with no long distance.

my parents, grandparents, and my dad's cousin have WOW VOIP service along with cable and internet. I've had absolutely no problems and as far as I've heard neither have they.

We decided to get a new number anyway though to try to fool the telemarketers, it kind of worked (it's certainly cut down).

BTW the do not call list is bullshit

Well, I tried Vonage. They do offer a lot of great features and they have great customer service, but it isn't working out. Now I wish I had not had my landline cut off because it will take almost a week to get it back now.

The voice quality is great as far as what I hear, but other people hear me garbled and can not understand what I say half the time. (I'm guessing my upload speed is not enough). People say it sounds like I am underwater.

It's cheap though, only 14 bucks and free calls to Canada so I will be keeping it as a second line for my teenager to talk to her friends in Canada.

I'm having my phone # transferred back to a landline and geting a new # with vonage as a secondary line.

we have vonage.

we had problems sometimes with our phone not ringing and going straight to voice mail. we ended up getting a new box from them and as far as i know we have not had that happen anymore.

i also had a problem where i would always hear myself through the phone and it got to be annoying and i would often pause or it was delayed and someone would not know i had spoken and would start to speak only to hear me a few seconds later and they would always stop. it always sounded like i was interrupting them. i had to tell them upfront what my phone did so i didn't seem rude that it was delayed.

after we got the new box - no problems.

i have been happy having vonage. only hate that when my cable is out, so is my phone. but i love how cheap it is for what it offers. we have the 25 dollar plan.
