URGENT! HELP! Paczki Panic!

Yes, this is WORTH breaking my hiatus for!!!

I just tried to call the Oaza bakery in Hamtramck, where, for about 10 years prior to moving out of state, I picked up paczki for friends, family & co-workers on Fat Tuesday.

THEY'RE CLOSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I move out of state and EVERYTHING FUCKING CLOSES!!!! Lili's, Hamtramck Pub, Mervyn's, NOW THIS!!! OH, THE HUMANITY!

So, are you familiar with Hamtramck bakeries? Where would you suggest I go instead? I have family depending on me to pick up Paczki tomorrow and drop them off at their businesses to share with co-workers.

I called the Polish Art Center and the woman there suggested New Palace bakery. If I don't get other suggestions, I'll go with that.

I have seen New Place Featured on many Local news casts, I do not have any personal experience with them but since i had heard of them befor and they have seemingly been featured (mainly on Fox 2) every year i thought i would let ya know.

Meijer's carries them too. Now I am not saying they would be as good as those fresh from a bakery but if all else fails you have a backup.

After getting to sleep at my usual time of about 4:00, I'm up at what is, for me, a completely ludicrous hour to go off to New Palace and pick up 3 dozen pre-ordered paczki for family & friends.

And yes, I'm going back to sleep after they're picked up.

BTW - Mardi Gras means "Fat Tuesday", and Carnivale basically means "Farewell to Meat". Stupid Lent. I'm not giving up anything and I'll eat all the damn meat I want. Mmmm.

Actually, I am supposed to avoid stuff like donuts anyway because it makes my cholesterol creep back up (all that white flour and sugar makes my triglycerides shoot through the roof).

i didn't get to have one! i have missed out on having one many years in a row now. i used to make a point to do whatever i could to have one. i was just talking about this bakery with my husband last night critter. i had no idea they closed.

Wrong but it's true. Our boss got us a whole tray of fresh baked ones the other day. They were FREE!!!! HAhahaha and I wonder why I'm still fat.
