Fierce Critter Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 Yes, this is WORTH breaking my hiatus for!!! I just tried to call the Oaza bakery in Hamtramck, where, for about 10 years prior to moving out of state, I picked up paczki for friends, family & co-workers on Fat Tuesday. THEY'RE CLOSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I move out of state and EVERYTHING FUCKING CLOSES!!!! Lili's, Hamtramck Pub, Mervyn's, NOW THIS!!! OH, THE HUMANITY! So, are you familiar with Hamtramck bakeries? Where would you suggest I go instead? I have family depending on me to pick up Paczki tomorrow and drop them off at their businesses to share with co-workers. I called the Polish Art Center and the woman there suggested New Palace bakery. If I don't get other suggestions, I'll go with that. Thanks! (Oh, and Hi - doing well, miss you all, etc etc etc. )
Lilith Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 I have seen New Place Featured on many Local news casts, I do not have any personal experience with them but since i had heard of them befor and they have seemingly been featured (mainly on Fox 2) every year i thought i would let ya know.
Draco1958 Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 Meijer's carries them too. Now I am not saying they would be as good as those fresh from a bakery but if all else fails you have a backup.

AstralCrux Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 I always end up with Jack's Bakery on Allen Rd.
Fierce Critter Posted February 28, 2006 Author Posted February 28, 2006 Thanks, all. After getting to sleep at my usual time of about 4:00, I'm up at what is, for me, a completely ludicrous hour to go off to New Palace and pick up 3 dozen pre-ordered paczki for family & friends. And yes, I'm going back to sleep after they're picked up. Happy Paczki Day/Fat Tuesday/Mardi Gras to all! =)
n0Mad Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Knapps Donuts in downtown Rochester. Mmm ... they're on the way. BTW - Mardi Gras means "Fat Tuesday", and Carnivale basically means "Farewell to Meat". Stupid Lent. I'm not giving up anything and I'll eat all the damn meat I want. Mmmm.
holliwood66 Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 heh, I've had 2 bavarian over the weekend... I should have brought one into work for myself...*DROOL*
FarrIL Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Okay, I really didnt realize that today was Fat Tuesday. And dammit, what the HELL am I going to give up for Lent? Wasnt I already cutting back on soda? Hmm, best stay on that. XD

Mmmm. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> WHY are you so damn thin! I"d be as big as a house if I ate that stuff. *stomps feet* It's just not fair. :laughing Actually, I am supposed to avoid stuff like donuts anyway because it makes my cholesterol creep back up (all that white flour and sugar makes my triglycerides shoot through the roof). *sigh* This thread is making me hungry for junky sugary food!
n0Mad Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 And dammit, what the HELL am I going to give up for Lent? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ooo, ooo, I know, I know. Pick me, pick me! You can give up your labret piercing. :laughing :laughing :laughing I'm such an ass. You can put it back in when Lent is done.
