I used to work in gebralter in the computer show, 80% of that stuff is rip offs. Though I did find a few good deals but you really have to hunt for them.

I hope they didn't blow your board. That's the other problem, a lot of the hardware is suspect.

Actually, if you know your shit and talk like you know your shit the chances of getting ripped off or "bad goods" drops significantly. Also ask where the company is located, if they have a public shop or if they only do shows, and what their return/replace policy is. In most cases, acting like an educated buyer removes the "schmuck" label.

This I can agree with, but not always.

I've got a good story of when I was working where a guy was selling Pentium III computers (when they were big stuff) and they had nothing but Celleron processors in them. So the guy comes to us looking to buy a Celleron processor because he actually got one with a PIII in it and didn't want to sell it.

I've shopped at the Gibraltar computer shows for years. other than a problem with a hard drive from one dealer, who I won't buy from again, I have never had a problem with stuff I buy there.

I was considering hitting up the State Fair Grounds on Saturday to see what was available. I'm lookin to build a new system and possibly pick up a few other things. Anyone else down?
