The_Dark Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Brokeback Mountain Crash Good Night, and Good Luck Munich Capote The Constant Gardener Transamerica Syriana
JaneDead Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 i have not seen any of these movies. or anywhere they are playing (but i have also not paid attention) i do want to see Transamerica though so i'd like to find out where that one is playing.
The_Dark Posted March 3, 2006 Author Posted March 3, 2006 I cant find anyone who has... and somehow.. these are the top oscar picks....
saechalyn Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 I've seen Brokeback Mountain and Transamerica. Both were very good.
mallochai Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 Brokeback MountainCrash Good Night, and Good Luck Munich Capote The Constant Gardener Transamerica Syriana <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've seen... Brokeback Mountain -loved it, very true to the story with some added bonus type stuff. The Constant Gardener -very gritty, well acted. And I've seen Munich and Capote at the theater, though I didn't actually see them... at the theater. So they're out there. In someone's neck of the woods.
sass_in_the_pants Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 Ever since Titanic swept at the Oscars, I lost ALL faith in their ability to choose quality movies.
Fierce Critter Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 TransAmerica & Brokeback Mountain were showing at the theater in Royal Oak a week or two ago.
the eternal Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Brokeback MountainCrash Good Night, and Good Luck Munich Capote The Constant Gardener Transamerica Syriana GREAT GREAT GREAT MOVIES!!!! I'm a bit of a movie snob. I actually often agree with the critics, although I ALSO think Titanic blew chunks (ANYTHING Kate Winslet or Leo were in are better than that) BTW, as far as seen where they're playing, that REALLY surprises me Dark. In any metropolitan area, they're all at a local theter around Oscar time. anfd in major metro areas, htey were there before. Royal Oak and Novi get all the cool indie flicks it seems, but they make their way through Lansing for a week or too, for the most part, as well. Now let's see: Brokeback Mountain--beautiful, tragic, heartbreaking ( the kind the academy LOVES to honor-and probably would've gotten best picture if they didn't feel heat from the backlash of conservatives who were screaming about a "gay film" winning the Oscar. I personally didn't care that much either way since they were all good. The only thing that bothered me was that BM had ALL the buzz and then when the spotlight was on them for favoring the dreaded "gay film" the buzz shifted to Crash. Forget the hype. I t wasn't an upset. When I saw Fox News dedicating themselves to whining about this film, I said, there is no chance for this flick, and it lost. Crash- best movie about race relations and prejudice since Do The Right Thing Good Night and Good Luck- I could not say enough good things about this movie. It perfectly chronicles one of the most frightening moments in our nations history and proudest moments in jounalism When a man with conviction stood up and called this obnoxious jackass out for what he was doing Deny free speech Going on a spurious witch hunt Creating a climate of fear while covering up the questionable nature of his actions Using the government to pry into people's lives and make wild accusations HMMM, that sounds familiar And all captured in eery, noirish black and white Amazing!!! I could go on about others but I don't wish to bore you any further. One thing, though, Dark I don't know where you live, but for all the media hue and cry over all these small movies noone saw getting nominated IN 2005 Brokeback $80 MIL!!!!!! Crash grossed $55 MIL EVEN Good Night and Good Luck did $30 MIL Compare that to say Sin City (big stars/big budget) $74 MIL Tim Burton's Corpse Bride $53 MIL or even XXX:State of the Union $26 MIL for perspective. Somehow, I have the feeling the Oscar-nominated movies weren't the only ones you missed this year, Dark. Anyway, here's an Academy award winner I honestly thing ANYONE can enjoy, liberal/conservative/old man/little girl Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit--It won best animated feature, it's G-rated and it's hilarious Just my .02
The_Dark Posted March 8, 2006 Author Posted March 8, 2006 Yes, for all the hype.. and the 80million... It has not once been the #1 watched movie of the week... infact.. at it's best it was #4. It did make it to the #2 spot if you look at things on a dialy basis.
Marblez Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I saw Crash. I very much liked it....was quite slow moving at first...then CRASH! lol.
pharoh Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I seen Munich and thought it was well done, but it didn't deserve any awards in my opinion.
wormsinwombs Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 I saw Munich in theaters awhile a go. I thought it was pretty good.
