DeVos vs. Granholm

You don't really have to answer... I'm just wondering if anyone is paying attention to the race for the next govenor of Michigan.

I'll say this.. I voted for Granholm last time. I have regretted it since about her 5th day in office. I don't like to fall into the "anybody but..." trap... but damn.. that woman has to go.

I voted against Granholm last time in 2002 and went with Posthumus. I am for sure going to vote against her again and go with DeVos.

i'm not educated enough on either one to make a good decision... if this holds true until the election, i just won't vote. :erm

Any stances thus far? Any reason one is better than the other?

Humm well There are 3 major reasons why I like DeVos over Granholm :

1) Michigan currently has the worst economy in the nation and it is headed even further down the tubes. The Detroit Free Press says that Michigan loses one job every ten minutes, and it is growing. Michigan is the only state to lose jobs over the last two years while the rest of the nation has added 3.7 million new jobs.

2) The cost of health care in Michigan is rising at a HUGE rate. Health care costs are hurting families and job makers. People are spending more money for less care and in my own personal case, businesses are slashing jobs, changing new contracts, and filing for bankruptcy to keep up with skyrocketing health care expenses. This also does not help our economy.

3) Acording to Time magazine, Michigan ranks 48th in the nation for the amount of education money that actually makes it's way to the classroom.

That is really all I have for now, but the Michigan economy will be the big issue in this years election as it has gone downhill severely during Granholm's years in office.

Works for me. End Granholm.

I might have other issues with Granholm... But the econonmy is not one of them. Look to the poor performance of the domestic auto industry as a good chunk of why things suck. Also... The Republican's are in the majority in the legislature are they not? I know they'd like to get rid of the Single Business Tax because they they think it's a drag on the econmy. Why have they taken so long to act on this? And where is the 2 billion in income it creates going to come from? They better have a lot of businesses lined up to move in.....

Health care costs are going through the roof nationally. How is that her fault?

The third I can agree with somewhat. That's probably a shared responsibility with the state house and senate.

How about pointing to some things that she had a direct hand in? What did or didn't she sign? What did she back up or propose that pisses you off?

Nothing I can see has really improved all that much in the last 4 years... But I can hardly see how anyone or anything can be worse for the state than another Engler, so probably DeVos

Michigan is the ONLY state with the Single Business Tax. Why? Because it kills job growth. It drives away existing businesses and keeps new ones from moving in.

What has she done thats bad? If there is a budget problem her first thought is to cut funding to schools. Last year she tried to cut MEAP scholarships completly... those Republicans you hate so much refused to let her. After being embarrased in the press by them.. she relented and gave them back. Her first act as Govenor was to cut the funding to schools.

She talks alot about how important education is.. but she wont put the money where her mouth is.

She took over, the economy went south. It's still going south. What ever it is she is doing.. it's not working.

Like I said I am not voting for her

Only commenting in this thread because this came up in a discussion at the dinner table recently.

For those who are saying, "Granholm has f*ed up Michigan in the 4 years she's been in office, so she needs to go", PARTICULARLY those of you who are saying, "I'd rather die than vote Republican, but she sucks so DeVos has my vote", keep in mind the possibility that the damage was set in motion by the previous REPUBLICAN administration, and that it may take longer than 4 years to fix things.

Not saying I know this to be fact. Just that it's something to consider. I still haven't made up my mind who I'm voting for. But that little bit of "food for thought" has made me reconsider my own, "I'm voting for DeVos, republican or not, 'cause Granholm hasn't done a good job" simplistic "logic".

It's not necessarily that simple. So I'm doing more research first. I strongly suggest voters actually get a bit INFORMED before making these kinds of decisions.

That's all. Back to hermeting. :wink

I'm thinking I'm going to be moving to AZ, soon! Can't wait! I friggin' love it here! The heat doesn't bother me at all and the best part? NO SNOW!!! (S.N.O.W. - Shit  No One Wants)   Been staying in Bullhead City where the kids and grandkids live. Next, we're going to the wife's cousin's which is a ways North of Kingman, in the middle of nowhere, where we actually plan to move.   I really like Bullhead. It's a nice little town. Not overcrowded like Colorado Springs has become, at all. Very light traffic, reasonable prices on everything, low taxes, etc. The river offers a lot to do, with a lot of beaches and campgrounds all around it.   But yeah even though we've been over 110º-115º F just about every day,  I can handle it!  What I can't handle anymore, is snow and being cold. Just tired of it. Give me the desert over a blizzard any day!

Nope, we wasn't doing anything. I didn't want to go by myself.  I ended up doing karaoke here. It would of been a perfect day to go, though.
