soothsayer Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 I've gotten messages lately from younger people (teenagers mostly) and they're telling me how my music is "dope". This is obviously the new word for cool. Funny how slang evolves with each generation. So I wanted to find out how many slang words are there that substitute the meaning of good (or bad) or what have you. Anyone remember when awesome was the new cool? :whistling
torn asunder Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 i've been hearing "dope" for a while - an old one i can remember was something that was cool, being "tits". (or, "titties & beer", as one highschool bud put it!) also, gnarly, tubular, wicked, bitchin', radical, sweet, kick-ass... ummm, drawing a blank now, will come back if i remember any more...
JaneDead Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 yeah "dope" is not so new at all. i have always stuck with "cool" cool is my new and old way of saying something is cool.
Slept with ghost Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 i always found slang terms sort of funny one time i was in a chat room (god i hate my life) and i was listening to the cure i mentioned so in said chat some kid said the cure owns and i sat there wondering if robert smith ever wrote any songs with hopes that one day some kid in a chat room would say that his band owns
JaneDead Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 i have never been able to catch on to slang sort of like all my friends say "right on" and i just can't bring myself to ever say that. ever. but i have always been fond of jive turkey and daddy-o.
soothsayer Posted March 14, 2006 Author Posted March 14, 2006 cool is my new and old way of saying something is cool. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's funny. :laughing That's like saying black is the new black - anyway. :grin I've taken to saying "fucking right on" over the last few months, dunno why but it just sounds good. I had a friend that use to say "rot!" - everything was rot, he was an odd fellow. How about rightous? I know it isn't new but it doesn't get used much anymore.

n0Mad Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I taught myself Cockney once and weave in and out of proficiency. It's really fun to mix it in to the convo. I was chatting with some Brits once and this bloody wanker cut us off while driving so I hurled this huge tirade in Cockney. The Brits looked at me and said, "Fucking 'L. You're more British than we are." Heh heh ... On one of Eddie Izzard's DVDs ("Circle" maybe?) he goes over the phrase, "dog's bollocks".
soothsayer Posted March 15, 2006 Author Posted March 15, 2006 Cockney slang is too cool. I use to use it from time to time when I went through my "I'd rather defect to the U.K." phase. :grin Yea - I listened to a lot of British bands during that time.
Crazed Vampyress Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I remember Will Smith using "dope" back on "Fresh Prince of Bel Air"! general agreeance - werd (word) all is well - s'all gravy, baby youre being dumb - you joo! (jew!) goodbye - wun (won, one) youve been away a long time - you've been gone a minute! really? -OR- you dont say? - oh snap!? Possibly check out these for more fun....
