Actually, it isn't that much of a hassle at all. The wait is a good 4-6 weeks. I went to my local post office, filled out the paperwork at home(1.5 pages with standard questions) took it back, signed it. Done. All together it was about 55.00. You will also need your birth certificate original or a copy with a seal to send with your application. They return it to you with your passport. You will also need passport photos. I went to a place in Livonia on Schoolcraft.
