nodrew Posted January 29, 2005 Posted January 29, 2005 Hey guys, I'm looking for suggestions on used CD stores in the detroit area. I haven't been used CD shopping in quite some time and am getting the urge. Royal Oak area would be prefered, but if there is one why out in BFE that is just really good, than I may be willing to drive. Thanks guys.
Lilith Posted January 29, 2005 Posted January 29, 2005 http://www.detroitgothic.net/index.php?act...st=0#entry12007 check outhte thread above i got alot of cds for sale if nothing in the list intreests you , There is HOT HITS , and RECORDTIME both are in roseville
fallennon Posted January 29, 2005 Posted January 29, 2005 I don't know about Detroit, but Hot Hits is a pretty cool store it's on 696-and Gratiot right by Record Time. The owner of Hot Hits is really great and she'll order or look for and hold what she doesn't have that you want.
Black Sunday Posted January 29, 2005 Posted January 29, 2005 My favorite is near Roseville, it's called Melodies and Memories.....it's on gratiot between 7 and 8 I think. As for USED there isn't much as far as industrial/goth/ebm/synthpop since East Alley records in Rochester closed. but royal oak has wendel's, fun house records both right next to eachother on washington......neptune records on main street. but drive a couple miles north and check out flipside records in clawson, it's better than the stores in royal oak, it's on 14 mile and I think Rochester rd is the cross street but don't quote me. or go a few miles south to ferndale and check out record time on 9 mile - they have the best industrial/goth/ebm/synthpop selection (post east alley of course) and across the street is the record collector. Harmony house is still open on woodward and 11 and a half mile.
fallennon Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 I was unaware that there was still a Harmony House...are they still over priced?
DisturbedMania Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 If you're around Westland wander by Rock of Ages on Ford. And in Dearborn you can meet Wendy and Carl at Stormy Records on Mich. Ave.
fallennon Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 I have a friend in Dearborn...if I make it out that way again soon I'll check it out!
Black Sunday Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 Fallenon Harony House closed all but 1 store, the supersote on woodward. Harmony House has always been overpriced but they also had the best catalog of music anywhere in Metro Detroit and the Store on Woodward was by and large the best music store our area has ever had. I lived in Miami and there was the Virgin Megastore but I realized it was 2 stories tall and looked all fancy and whatnot but eve that wasn't as good as the Harmony House superstore. Well currently the harmony house on woodward is not as good as it used to be but it's still decent.
Fierce Critter Posted January 31, 2005 Posted January 31, 2005 "you can meet Wendy and Carl at Stormy Records" Would that be the same Wendy & Carl acoustic duo I used to hear a lot about in the early to mid 90's? Downriver stores (you'll need to consult switchboard.com for phone numbers to check if they're still open - I've been out of the loop for 3 years now): Repeat the beat on Telegraph in Dearborn; Record Exchange on Eureka in Southgate; Desireable Discs on Michigan Avenue in Dearborn, and on Ford Road in Westland (I believe) - they carry a LOT of non-pop stuff, and at one time the Michigan ave store even still had reel-to-reel tapes, just to give you an idea of how huge & ecclectic they are; there used to be several old record & CD sellers at Gibraltar Trade Center in Taylor (Eureka road & I-75). 100% of my once huge cassette collection was bought at the Record Exchange and Repeat the Beat, and about 90% of my CD collection is used and came from all of the above. Good luck!
DisturbedMania Posted January 31, 2005 Posted January 31, 2005 Yes, it would be that Wendy and Carl. Oh, FC, you're not gonna want to read this part. Repeat the beat and Desireable Disks are no more. We're ever constantly loosing good record stores. Ah! The evils of the corporate world.
Fierce Critter Posted January 31, 2005 Posted January 31, 2005 Repeat the beat and Desireable Disks are no more. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Christ. I figured as much. Grouse.
bav Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 If you don't mind hiking all the way out to A2, there's Encore Records on Liberty. They have a huge selection of used CDs & vinyl, and I'm always surprised at what I find there.
BillyDeath Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 Check out the flee market in Waterford on the corner of Dixie and TeleGraph.
