Cleaning up laid-off coworker's cubes.

On Monday, both my manager and one of the other designers I worked with were laid off. As the next most senior designer, I've taken responisibility for going through all their stuff, cleaning out what's not needed, organizing it, etc. Every other object I touch reminds me that they're gone and that they were great people to work with. It also reminds me how impersonal and disruptive today's way of letting people go is. No transition period, no handing over of responsibilities... just "See ya"..... Grrrrr.... :confused =( :doh

The economy is really bad right now. I hope they find something, it's rough out there. I guess you empathize because you'd know how it would feel if it was you that were laid off.

Yes it does suck, I got a "see ya" notice from a company I loved working for after 4.5 years on the job. It was the only job that I actually looked forward to my work day instead of dreading it. And the people I worked with were great to be around.

Ok so I was off topic a little but I agree with you Marc 100%.

That does suck! =(

Usually at my job, people quit and then I have to clean out their mailboxes and do all the work they were supposed to have done two months ago and never did.

I've been there three times before. I DO know how it feels. =(

Sometimes, people find something even better than what they had. That's what I am hoping for this person. =(

I doubt it. Not now... in SE Michigan. My manager was probably very well paid for a graphic designer because he was playing the role of an industrial designer and getting paid accordingly. I hope I'm wrong.
