As some of you know I've been working at pfizer, as security, for almost the last 4 years that I've been posting on dgn. Well the company I work for, guardsmark, lost the contract and myself along with the entire security crew are now out of the job due to some bullshit legal issues in our contract that we supposedly signed. Its a "non-compete clause" that prevents us from switching companies in order to continue working at pfizer. Soooooo this means today is my last day working at pfizer........and using thier internet to post on dgn :wink Supposedly Im getting a transfer to another guardscrap account, which means a paycut and more driving so more than likely I'll have to quit and find a new job.......

Sorry to hear about that. I wish you luck on obtaining a new position that you will enjoy or one that's tolerable. Hopefully, you will be able to begin posting again. Take care.

that all sucks! good luck to you if you need to find another job. and hope you will still be able to be around dgn.

I know I already said this, but Gah that sucks. I know what a nightmare job hunting is, Good luck!!

sorry to hear of this chief. hope all things turn out better than the forecast though

Did they give you any details about the transfer?

Ya I think that no competition clause is a bunch of bullshit, I had to sign them a few times working at places, a company has no right to dictate where you work after are no longer employed, it's just another way for buisnesses to fuck you over.

Basically......they went out of thier way to prevent us from hiring on with the new security company at pfizer....promising us a transfer that retained our payrate....and now its day 2 of unemployment and I still don't know where or when I start my new assignment.

I've been on several interviews for other jobs but so far none have hired me, the latest one seemed very cool. It was a postion for a lab test technician running stress test equipment on tires for a non-company biased annalysis. I had my interview with the owner monday, so hopefully I hear back soon.

Sorry to hear about all this Daevion. Since you have been there a while, i am sure it won't take you long to get back in. maybe you could take the opportunity now to look for other companies hiring directly. Most all staffing companies will have the non-compete issue.

Perhaps Pfizer would like you enough to bring you on directly and just buy out your contract with the staffing firm?

I wish that was possibility.....the main problem there is that pfizer was and is in the process of major cut backs for staff directly employed by them....meaning they want more outside contractors working than in house to save money. Pfizer losing alot of profit to the generic drug companies so now they are downsizing.

I spoke to the director of security at pfizer on my second to last day and he wants most of us to come back in 2007 when the non-compete crap expires. That was nice of him to say that but really, the goal for me is to get the hell out of security and have an actual career.

You know... in Michigan... if it's your only skill.. non-compatition clauses are moot.

well I finally got my transfer......it looks like I'll working at the ford R&D facility in dearborn, right across the street from greenfield village. Unfortuantly the contract with ford means I have join a union, which sucks balls. I really don't want to work in dearborn but at least I have job to carry me thur till I get something better in the AA area. Paycut, union fees, more driving......woot! isn't life great!

Looks like I have a new job, I start friday! I quit guardsmark and took a job with this company called securitas working at the ford ( visteon? ) plant in Ypsilanti...its only a 10 min drive so its the better of two evils. Less driving, no union fees, and there is a good chance I'll get weekends off. Unemployed for less than two weeks, not bad eh?

I remember ya told me about this couple times at cc and I know it sux really bad because I been battling life without being employed as welll and its fucking tough!! I've managed ta work at a few laces there n there but I kept getting let go due to same excuse I here as "theres too much people". It gets really hopless after awhile. But just keep hanging in there man.
