Militia types

Ok so yesterday I am at a CB shop in Indianapolis to get my CB worked on. A peculiar looking guy in some weird shades and smoking cigarettes with one of those extension pipes is having a long range CB system installed in this monster of a Dodge Ram that looks pretty nice. He came over and started talking to me and immediately I knew something was not right with this guy.

He was talking about the near future and how we all need to be ready and choose our neighbors. He was telling me how his engine has a 600 hp hemi and that his truck is the solution to the energy crisis and how my truck will run dry and I will abandon it on the highway while he is still driving when everyone is in a daze. He mentioned about installing bullet proof glass on his truck and hummer tires and he will have firepower and I won't. This guy came off as a totally egotistical asshole who seemed to suspect everyone. He mentioned the militia but didn't go into it. I asked him if he was one of those types like the guy at Ruby Ridge, but he told me that he was no friend of theirs.

He made everyone feel uncomfortable including the guys doing the work on his truck. I just wanted the guy to go away and I don't scoff that easily. I just left thinking that guy was totally looney or out of this plane of the world.

Any ideas as to what this guy was all about?

Survival. The area I live in is ripe with nuts of this variaty. Though honestly.. some people say I'm one of them.

In all seriousness, I used to live next door to one of these folks when I was in collage... the guy would literally give me copies and brochures every day about how Jesus would destroy the Gays and sinners and such, and how god wants all of the rightous to be armed like him, and the whole choosing sides business etc... I just had to nod and smile and try to walk away... one day he actually cornered me for almost an hour and I literally had about a hundred pages if "literature" by the time he was done...

we have a paranoid schitzophrenic at the bar. it is rather worrying when he starts talking to you as he wont go awayall night and you have to "handle with gloves" per say.

It reminds me of the guy in the Militia shop in the movie 'Falling Down' you know, he ends up killing the guy after he helps him elude the police.

its pretty hard to lump them all into one catagory... there are dozens of different "stereotypes" that all fit into the "militia wierdo" catagory. I grew up around alot of them... basicly they dont understand the world and this is their way of dealing with it... plus a good number of them are completely insane.

the guy in the surplus store in falling down was a Nazi rather than a "militia" guy. In the real world, there is some overlap, but usually the militia types have a religious identity componant rather than a national socialist political basis for their beliefs.

A good portion of them keep religion out of it and are just so patriotic and stuck on the constitution that they make the ACLU look like conservatives.

I usually don't like or even agree with these types but.....when that blackout hit.....I admit....I wished I had a large chunk of land with a water supply and allot of guns.

Survivalists come in many flavors. You have your rapture nut, your constitution nut, your red menace nut, your nuclear/biological/chemical nut, your race war nut, et cetera. They tend to be ultraconservative, but there are a few that lean left of center. They're as hard to communicate with as any other zealot, and for pretty much the same reasons.

:devil I personally know two people in the Michigan Malitia,but I really do not hang out with them at all,but some of their views I do agree with,when it comes to freedom being taken away,I am not even going into details.

Then again you also have the crazy,nutty type that will pull some nasty bullshit.Malitias very in alot of ways.just not enough good ways.
