As mentioned in other threads, opinion of her effectiveness is pretty dismal.

I wanted to open a thread specifically for commentary on the subject.

I've been out of the state for pretty much her entire term. I don't base my vote on public opinion. But that is a factor in how I view candidates.

Does ANYONE out there think she's not the horrible governor most seem to say she is? Or is opinion of her negative across the board?

Actual examples of what she's done right/wrong would be appreciated. Pointing me toward objective websites/articles is great, too.

Thanks. Have at it. :wink

I am no expert on Michigan politics by any means but considering that the U.S. economy is hot right now while Michigan's is in worse shape than when she began, many people might not like her. I keep hearing the "single business tax" is one problem that she has not addressed.

I don't know a ton about the SBT... She's vetoed legislation to repeal it because there was no alternative source to replace the income lost. The state is hurting already finacially. I'm sure some *might* be replaced through attraction of new business, but it's tough to gamble with hopes when things are already bad..

I've heard many bits and pieces of things she has or has not done, but not enough to form an overall impression of her effectiveness. One thing to remember: She came in at a time when the economy was not great and getting worse. Also... I've heard a number of people talk about how Engler may have enacted policies before he left to deliberately screw her. I don't have anything to back that up, though.

The Engler thing wasn't to screw her per say.. it was to screw congress. It was all over the news at the time. They refused to pass the budget that Engler put forward. Said budget wouldn't have put us in such a bad place but in the short run it meant penny pinching for the State. So, He warned them publicaly that he would give them a budget they liked, but it would fuck us in the long run. They went with that budget.. it had immediate results that looked good... forget the whole 2 years down the road it's all going to bite you in the ass part.

The politican that governs least governs best.

I'd rather have a do-nothing governor than one promoting a "culture of life." Ugh.

BTW, here's where your money is going.

# Applicant: Ann Arbor Cool Cities Task Force

# Project: Creative Interactions: An Urban Catalyst

# Project Description:  An interactive indoor gathering space will be the creation of three microcinema lounges at the award winning Michigan Theater that will morph into a state-of-the-art audio-visual social node for digital filmmakers to showcase their work. The grant will be used for microcinema digital projection system, flat screens, digital cabling, WiFi, digital upgrades for sounds and computer video, renovations, furniture.

Yeah, Ann Arbor's strapped for cash and, believe me, we could really use this.

:devil Well at least where I am working now, we are a niche company, which means we do certain special projects that other stamping/tooling shops cannot do.

Alot of stamping plants have closed over the years, due to high steel costs.
